I just recently ventured into the world of makeup but I have quickly fallen in love with not just the products, but the artistry and craft too! Makeup is so much more than what some people think it is. It’s empowering. It gives women confidence. The right products and techniques can make a woman feel like she can conquer the world just as easily as she swivels her lipstick tube. Over the past few months, I’ve learned how to apply makeup on myself watching YouTube videos. But I want to paint other faces too!
I didn’t want to learn this from YouTube though. So I reached out to a local makeup artist in hopes of landing an internship……….and I did! Meet Elizabeth Colburn!
This phenomenal women has been in the makeup industry for over 20 years! She has worked in film, broadcast, editorial, bridal, you name it! Elizabeth has a gorgeous shop in downtown Ann Arbor and is one of the sweetest women you could ever meet! I contacted her via email about an internship and she responded very quickly and agreed to meet with me for an interview! The staff at the salon were incredibly polite and professional in scheduling my interview and making me feel at home the second I walked into the salon!
Once I sat down with Elizabeth, she told me she was a little uneasy about offering an internship, but after I sat down with her she agreed to allow me to help out in her salon! She seems like she’s going to be a joy to work with and I look forward to getting to know more about the craft.
Over the years Elizabeth’s work has been featured in the popular film 8 Mile, Saturday Night Live, Fox News, The International Auto Show in Detroit, Super Bowl XL, Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, GQ and much more! She has worked with stars like Eminem, Kid Rock, Michael Phelps, Al Sharpton, Ben Wallace and even the Presidential candidates in 2004 for a debate! Elizabeth has an amazing resume and portfolio!
