Blue lips anyone? Don’t all raise your hands at once! NYX Blue Velvet isn’t a lipstick everyone will like but I’m still digging it anyway. It’s certainly a lipstick that only the bold and confident can pull off alone. But don’t count it out just yet! You might not feel daring enough to sport such a funky pout but Blue Velvet could still make an excellent addition to your stash!
The Macaron Lipsticks seem to be a mixed bag so far as far as quality goes. The 4 shades I picked up all seem to be quite pigmented but the formula can be hit or miss. Violet performed like a dream while Key Lime gave me a bit of trouble during application. Luckily, Blue Velvet turned out to be a hit! The color is beautifully unique and the formula was pretty darn impressive too!
Blue Velvet is a vibrant cool aqua blue with a creamy satin finish and a faintly sweet yet plastic-y scent. It’s pretty easy to look “sickly” with blue lips but Blue Velvet didn’t give me the hypothermia look. It actually looked gorgeous against my skin tone and made quite the statement! Blue Velvet also played nice with other lipsticks so it’ll be perfect for mixing and making new colors. There’s so much you can do with it!
I was a little nervous after my struggle with Key Lime but Blue Velvet was totally different. It applied very smoothly and evenly without any bleeding, feathering or settling into lip lines. The formula was very comfortable on my dry lips from start to finish. It didn’t feel drying at all nor did it cling to any dry spots. Blue Velvet wore quite wonderfully for over 6 hours before beginning to stain and fade. I did notice some slight feathering as it faded away but it wasn’t too bad. Overall, I simply adore Blue Velvet! Whether I’m using it to blue up my favorite pink and purple lipsticks or taking it for a cool stroll around the block it’s been a treat a use. I highly recommend giving it a spin the next time you take a trip to Ulta!
