NYX Key Lime Macaron Lipstick Review

It’s not too often that you see divas walking down the street in green lipsticks but that just might change! I was super excited to get my hands on the NYX Key Lime Macaron Lipstick because it looks bright and fun. Of course, I was a little nervous about how I’d look in green lipstick. Who wouldn’t be? As it turns out, I really dig it!

Key Lime is a vibrant lime green with satin finish and a sweet plastic-y kind of scent and no taste. Like Violet, the scent is only noticeable in the tube and even then it’s very faint. Key Lime looks a little intimidating in the tube but it’s actually a really beautiful color! I was worried it might look too pastel but it doesn’t seem to have a white base. Naturally, Key Lime is more for the bolder ladies out there but I think it would look great on light and deep complexions. It’s surprisingly wearable for a green lipstick!

The only thing I didn’t like about Key Lime was the application. It wasn’t a complete disaster but it definitely didn’t apply as smoothly as Violet. The pigmentation was perfect but I had a hard time getting it to look even. Key Lime applied streaky and patchy no matter how I prepared my lips beforehand. I’ve exfoliated, applied balm, primer and a clear lip liner but it just didn’t look as smooth and even as I wanted it to. I was disappointed because I really love the color! I hope to find a bright green eyeliner soon to use a base for better application. Thankfully, Key Lime wore much better than it applied. It felt creamy on the lips and wore quite comfortably for over 6 hours before fading into a stain. However, it settled into lip lines a bit once it began to stain so I’d recommend keeping an eye on it throughout the day. Key Lime would make an excellent lipstick for layering and mixing but it takes a bit of work to wear alone. If you don’t mind doing a bit of tweaking then it’s totally worth a try! However, if you’re looking for a fuss free green lip you may want to pass. Key Lime isn’t for the faint of heart!
