Maybelline Mesmerizing Magenta Color Sensational Matte Lipstick Review

You know what they say. Third time’s a charm, right? I was really excited about the new Maybelline Color Sensational Matte Lipsticks but the first couple of shades I tried turned out to be a disaster! Ravishing Rose and Faint For Fuchsia looked so dry and powdery on my lips that I was nervous to go anywhere near the rest of my haul. However, Mesmerizing Magenta really seems to be turning things around for me. I kinda like it!

Mesmerizing Magenta is a really interesting name for this lipstick. While the color can be quite mesmerizing it’s nowhere near magenta. It’s actually more of a vibrant warm fuchsia with red undertones. It’s the kind of pink that’ll work well on a variety of skin tones. But it really pops on brown skin! It’s not neon bright but it’s definitely vibrant enough for a sexy suitor across the street to take notice.

Surprisingly, I had a little trouble finding a dupe for Mesmerizing Magenta. The color is a lot more complex than it looks! The closest lipstick I could think of would be MAC Pleasure Bomb but it’s much brighter, darker and leans more red.

This time around, the Color Sensational Matte formula performed much, much better on my dry lips! Mesmerizing Magenta feels creamy to the touch and applies smoothly without any tugging or pulling. It can apply a bit patchy with a single swipe so you’ll want to be sure to layer it on a bit to achieve a nice, even finish. Be careful not to apply too much though! The Color Sensational Matte formula tends to bunch up into little bits if you go overboard. It’s not noticeable from a normal viewing distance though so it’s not too bad.

The texture reminds me a lot of MAC’s new matte formula but without the noticeable sheen. If you look really closely you can see a faint hint of shimmer in Mesmerizing Magenta but it doesn’t really translate onto the lips. It does seem to give a subtle light reflecting effect that’s pretty cool though. Nice touch Maybelline! Unlike the other shades I’ve tried, Mesmerizing Magenta looks very smooth on the lips. It doesn’t bleed, feather or settle into lip lines. It actually looks better as it wears on. Not to mention, it’s pretty comfortable to wear too! Mesmerizing Magenta lasts for around 4-6 hours before fading into an intense stain that you’ll practically have to scrub off. It’ll definitely last you all day! And the cherry on top? It doesn’t feel drying at all! If you would have asked me a week ago if I recommended the Maybelline Color Sensational Matte lipsticks I honestly would have turned you away. But Mesmerizing Magenta is well worth the try!
