When it comes to Milani lippies I just automatically know they’re going to be awesome. I’ve tried so many different Color Statement lipsticks that I didn’t hesitate one bit when I saw the new matte lipsticks. I just knew they were going to be the best thing that has ever happened to drugstore lipsticks. It’s Milani, right?
Turns out, the Color Statement Matte lipsticks are pretty hit and miss. There’s some shades that work incredibly well like Matte Naked and Matte Glam. But some of them just aren’t that great. Like Matte Orchid.
Matte Orchid is a cool magenta with a sweet vanilla scent and creamy matte finish. It’s a color that we’ve seen a million times but it works so well on a variety of complexions that I was happy to see it in the lineup. However, the formula leaves a little to be desired.
Matte Orchid has a lightweight creamy texture that applies smoothly with full coverage in a single swipe but unevenly. The color tends to look a bit patchy with a single layer so I had to swipe it on a bit to get the color to look even. But it still didn’t look too hot.
Matte Orchid has a slightly drier texture than Matte Naked so it has a tendency to emphasize flakes and settle into lip lines considerably. It’s the kind of lipstick that you HAVE to prep for beforehand (exfoliate, moisturize, lip liner, etc) to achieve a clean, neat look. Which, honestly, is the norm for most matte lipsticks. So it’s not too bad. I just hate that I can’t toss it on and go without a ton of maintenance. Sometimes you just don’t feel like doing all of that, you know? If you don’t mind a little extra maintenance or have smoother lips than mine I think you will enjoy Matte Orchid.
