And here’s another good drugstore product for ya! Quite some time ago I showed you the new Rimmel Show Off Matte Lip Velvet Lipsticks and sunk my lips into Atomic Rose which turned out to be a disaster. I really didn’t like that shade. At all! To be honest, it turned me off of the Show Off Matte Lip Velvets for a while.
Until recently, when I rediscovered them in my stash and decided to give Meteoric Matte a whirl. Turned out to be a great judgment call because this shade was much better and actually made it into my work bag a few days. Meteoric Matte is a deep warm fuchsia with strong red undertones. It sports the same yucky hand lotion scent I loathed from the original line but, thankfully, it isn’t strong so it doesn’t bother me too much.
Minus the funky smell, the formula was much better this time around. I actually found it hard to believe that it came from the same line as Atomic Rose. It applied smoothly and evenly with full coverage in a single swipe and a lightweight creamy texture. It takes a little while for Meteoric Matte to completely dry down (about 2-5 minutes) but once it does, it sets to a comfortable semi-matte finish with a slight sheen.
While Meteoric Matte isn’t exactly budge-proof (it does transfer a bit), it still manages to wear pretty well for a matte liquid lipstick. The color didn’t emphasize flakes, settle into lip lines or look dry and cracked as it faded. It also didn’t feel drying at all. Meteoric Matte wore quite well for around 3-5 hours before fading into an intense stain. If you’ve been eyeing the new Rimmel Show Off Matte Lip Velvets I’d say Meteoric Matte is a great start!
