What’s Your Best Sun Care Product?

NARS Pure Radiance Tinted Moisturizer, CocoCare Nutritive Carrot Oil

Oooo, now this is a good beauty challenge! I recently started using the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream which I love (and am giving away here) because it’s incredibly lightweight, absorbs super quickly and gives my skin a soft matte finish. Sounds perfect for summer right? Almost. The biggest drawback is that it doesn’t contain SPF. Boo! Ever since I’ve started using it I’ve been on the hunt for a good sunscreen that doesn’t make me look ashy or have my makeup looking all funky.

As an alternative, I’ve been using my NARS Pure Radiance Tinted Moisturizer to hold things down on the makeup fort and the Cococare Nutritive Carrot Oil on the skincare end. The NARS Tinted Moisturizer is formulated with SPF 30 so it has a nice dose of sunscreen protection but I like to go the extra mile by mixing a drop or two of carrot oil into my Hydro Boost Gel Cream. I do a lot of research on natural ingredients since my skin is pretty sensitive and found out that some essential oils act as natural sunscreen–like carrot seed oil. According to research, it has a rather high SPF factor, around 35-40 to be exact. Not too bad right? I read a blog post over at Relaxed Hair Health about the Dr. Dennis Gross Dark Spot Sun Defense SPF 50 and I think that’s gonna be my next skincare investment. The formula sounds really good! But before I take the plunge I wanted to hear what you guys were using.

Wow, I didn’t know that about carrot oil! For winter or cold days, Supergoop City Sunscreen Serum SPF 30–it’s hydrating but not heavy, has anti-aging ingredients, fragrance free, but it’s hideously expensive ( $42 a bottle), so I stock up during Sephora sale. For summer, Paula’s Choice Hydralight Shine Free Mineral Sunscreen SPF30- it’s very lightweight, absorbs well, fragrance free, and keeps shine down. And it doesn’t leave that white cast that some mineral sunscreens can. You can buy a sample packet from her website for 80 cents to try out. I’m pretty fair/light, so I usually put on sunscreen (SPF 30), primer with sunscreen (Hourglass Mineral Veil SPF 15), then foundation or bb cream with sunscreen (It CC Cream SPF 50). It’s a pain, but worth it– sunscreen definitely prevents wrinkles, dark spots, sagging skin, etc. I wish I had been more diligent when I was younger
