How to Keep Your Lips Moisturized Under Your Matte Lipstick

How to keep your lips moisturized under your matte lipstick: Dior Creme de Rose Smoothing Plumping Lip Balm, Nivea A Kiss of Moisture Essential Lip Care, Makeup Academy Sugar Lip Scrub, Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask

With all these matte lipstick lines popping up left and right (Milani, Kat Von D, MAC, etc) it’s enough to make your head spin and your lips flake up. Because let’s admit it. Even the most comfortable matte lipstick will eventually start to suck the moisture out of your lips. It’s just the nature of the beast. So here’s a few tips and suggestions to keep the flakes at bay and let your matte lipstick live up to its full potential.

Makeup Academy Sugar Lip Scrub

First off, exfoliate! Exfoliating gets rid of those pesky flakes that makes matte lips look dry and icky. It also helps your lips absorb balm better and hold moisture a little longer. As you can see by the flattened tube the Makeup Academy Sugar Lip Scrub is a favorite exfoliator of mine. It has an oil base with some chunky sugar granules that softens dead skin cells (aka those stubborn flakes) and then scrubs them away with the sugar. It’s a handy little scrub on its own but it works best when paired with a wet washcloth or napkin to really get your lips baby soft.

Nivea A Kiss of Moisture Essential Lip Care

Next up, you want to apply a little balm. Not a whole lot. Just enough to coat both lips. I like to do this first before applying my makeup because it gives my lips time to soak in all that balmy goodness and get some moisture going. Once I’m done with my makeup, I just blot whatever’s left over on some tissue and begin applying my lip products. Now I have soft, smooth moisturized lips that are good to go! My current fave is the Nivea A Kiss of Moisture Essential Lip Care. It’s a little thick but it’s very hydrating and makes my lips feel buttery soft for hours.

Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask

To kick up the moisture a bit I like to go the extra mile and condition my lips overnight, too. This way, I don’t have to worry about exfoliating every morning or slathering on balm all day because my lips have been soaking in balmy goodness all night. Overnight face masks have become wildly popular and so have lip masks. Well, Bite Beauty’s Agave Lip Mask at least. This stuff is seriously like a mask for lips! It’s a thick, emollient and intensely hydrating balm that instantly soothes my dry lips and leaves them feeling like silk in the morning.

Dior Creme de Rose Smoothing Plumping Balm

Another overnight balm I like to use is the Dior Creme de Rose Smoothing Plumping Balm. It reminds me a bit of rose bud salve (which is another great lip treatment) but it’s a little thicker, more emollient and bit more hydrating too. While it’s much lighter than the Bite Beauty Lip Mask, it still keeps my lips moisturized through the night and leaves them feeling soft in the morning.

    1. You’re welcome! I didn’t even know they had a popcorn flavored one lol. That’s so fun and different! I’ll have to give it a sniff the next I’m in there

Oooh, these sound so decadently moisturizing… I use drugstore lip balms with natural oils, so that Nivea sounds right up my alley. And curious about that BITE Lip Mask, have heard so many good things about it. I still have a bunch of lip balms to finish, but when those are done, will give these a try

    1. Nivea balms are totally underrated. They’re crazy hydrating for the price and so easy to fin . You can’t beat that! The Bite mask is the bomb though. It leaves my lips soft all day if I apply it overnight. You have to get a sample!

I currently use Mary Kay Satin lips combination. It comes with a lip exfoliation & a lip balm for afterwards. I like it very much, & the lip balm leaves my lips soo soft!! I’m curious about the Dior Balm though. Think I’ll be purchasing that soon.

    1. I’m curious about this Mary Kay one lol. It sounds super convenient. I’m surprised I haven’t come across it yet. Thanks for sharing!

Hey!! It is very convenient, it comes as a set( Satin lip mask & lip balm) for $18, which us cheaper than buying separately. The tubes are .3oz each but a little goes a long way. I usually leave my lip mask on for about 3-5mins then I scrub off & follow with the lip balm which I very moisturizing. I usually sleep in it & wear any excess under my lipstick.

        1. I’ve never tried any Mary Kay but it sounds like I need this lol. A gal can never have too many balms or scrubs!
