Ahhh removing your makeup. It’s so bittersweet. You have to wipe away that precious slay you crafted yet you finally get to touch your face and relax. The most important goal of removing your makeup though is to keep your skin clean, clear and healthy so it looks good under all your favorite products. Not covered in breakouts and such because your pores are clogged. That’s no good!
However, completely removing your makeup can be easier said that done sometimes. Especially if you’re a makeup junkie who likes to rock a full face. Getting off all of the foundation, waterproof eye makeup, concealer and indestructible liquid lipsticks can be tricky but certainly not impossible. Thanks to Danielle, The Style & Beauty Doctor, I’ve been double cleansing to thoroughly remove my makeup and it works like a charm — no matter how much cake I’m wearing.
The concept of double cleansing is pretty simple. First, you cleanse with an oil based cleanser (cleansing oil). I love Bobbi Brown’s Soothing Cleansing Oil but you can use any cleansing oil of your choice. Simply massage a couple pumps (depends on how much makeup you’re wearing) onto your face using dry hands. The oil will break down and melt away makeup and dirt while hydrating and soothing skin.
Then, you cleanse again with your typical cleanser (foaming, gel, etc.). My current fave is Lancome’s Milky Cream Cleanser because it also gently breaks down makeup and gently cleanses without stripping my already dry skin. However, you can feel free to use any cleanser. I’ve tried this method with my Murad Essential-C Cleanser (gel) as well and it still worked like a charm.
I know the double cleansing method may sound like overkill but the result is thoroughly clean, makeup-free skin that isn’t stripped dry. The cleansing oil helps protect your moisture barrier as it hydrates so you’ll never dry out your skin double cleansing. You will finally remove all of your makeup though!
