Eyeshadow palettes can be super convenient and value packed but sometimes they lack balance. Especially when it comes to mattes. Pick any given eyeshadow palette and I guarantee you there’s way more shimmery and metallic shades than matte. Which isn’t necessarily bad–just lacking. I don’t know about you but I can’t stand shimmer in the crease. Even if it looks good, it just feels so wrong to me.

That’s why I’m big on transition shadows (like Bobbi Brown’s Camel) to help pull my palettes together because they often lack solid crease colors that aren’t too dark. And why I finally pulled the trigger on the Tarte Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Eyeshadow Palette after eyeing it for months.

It’s a completely matte eyeshadow palette that’s loaded with a fresh mix of warm and cool neutrals suitable for all complexions. Tartelette has been quite a hit since it was first released but I kept hesitating to purchase it because I wasn’t sure if it was worth it.

After a quick swatch of the darker half of Tartelette I was completely convinced that it was an absolute must have. Especially for gals like me who live for a matte crease. Tartelette is filled from top to bottom with great all over lid, crease, transition and highlight colors for fair to deep skin. At first, I harshly judged Tartelette by the lighter, pale left side thinking it couldn’t possibly work on brown skin but I was totally wrong. Tartelette is actually a wonderful matte palette for brown skin. And it seems to be great quality too! Most of the shades were very pigmented, soft and buttery with the exception of the 2 darkest shades which seemed a little patchy. I still think Tartelette is quickly going to become one of my favorite palettes though!

Girllllll!!! You ain’t never lie. I can’t stand shimmer in my crease. I like to define my crease and reflective shimmer does not do that! I thought that I was the only one.

    1. Girl not at all! I’ve seen some pretty looks using all shimmers but I just can’t bring myself to do it. I don’t like it. It doesn’t even feel right LOL

Funny! I just got this delivered today, took advantage of the sale they had last week. Your swatches got me ready to go play.

    1. I hope you like it! The sale motivated me to finally swatch it and I couldn’t be happier now that I have my hands on it. It’s about to go down!

This is one of my favorite palettes, and I’m not a huge fan of mattes. These are so good, though!

I’d drive you crazy…I wear shimmers in my crease all the time. 🙂

    1. Lmao omg you probably would! I’m guessing shimmers work a little better for you in the crease though. I don’t know if it’s because I have hooded lids but shimmer just never looks right in my crease. That’s why I had to get this palette lol. I just know it’s going to be my savior!

LOL Mine are deepset and slightly hooded, so I know shimmers should be an absolute no-no. I think I get away with it because I bring the color really high up and keep the shades darker. I don’t put really light shimmery shades on my crease, ever.
