The upside to now being a Prestige Manager at Ulta is that I’m no longer limited to loving just one brand. I get to love them all! It’s a catch 22 though when you love makeup as much as I do because it means that I spend a good chunk of money in there. Especially when there’s a new release. I just can’t help myself!
I’ve been a huge fan of NYX for years so when I saw our new tower of NYX filled from top to bottom with brand spanking new products I lost my mind. Like it literally almost exploded. There were new lipsticks, face products and more that I couldn’t wait to get my hands on. The second I got the chance to shop I picked up the first few things on my long list.
NYX added 10 new shades of Matte Lipsticks and Intense Butter Glosses in trendy shades that you don’t usually see in drugstore aisles. That’s why I love NYX. They’re extremely innovative for the price point and they always deliver. Both the new Matte Lipsticks and Intense Butter Glosses flew off the shelves but I managed to get my hands on 3 of the more popular shades I wanted before they sold out including:
- Cinnamon Roll Intense Butter Gloss cool taupe
- Goal Digger Matte Lipstick rich deep wine
- Up the Bass Matte Lipstick lavender-grey
Since I had a couple $5 off coupons, I decided it would be a great time to pick up some permanent lipsticks I’ve been eyeing for a while including:
- Maison Matte Lipstick cool beige-taupe
- Bewitching Simply Vamp Lip Cream burgundy wine
- She Devil Simply Vamp Lip Cream blackened plum
I love to highlight and contour so I was all over the new contouring goodies. I usually opt for cream formulas but I was curious to see how I’d like highlighting and contouring with liquids so I grabbed the Sculpt & Highlight Face Duo. There’s 6 shades in the range and out of habit I grabbed the darkest shade Espresso but it actually turned out to be too dark. Go NYX for stepping up your color range! The highlight was actually a tad darker than my complexion and the contour shade was super deep so I’m pleased to report that even the dark skin divas can get on this.
I ended up going back for the next shade up, Chestnut, which was a much better fit. The highlight leans a little orange but I kinda like it because it cancels out the need for a corrector. I just wish NYX went a little deeper with the contour shade. It makes for a great natural contour but seeing how dark Espresso’s contour was has me wanting to go back for it lol.
The Highlight & Contour Palette in Deep also turned out to be a tad too dark for me but there’s only 3 shades in this range so the next shade up wouldn’t work quite as well as I’d like. So I’m just going to stick with this one. I haven’t tried the Highlight & Contour Palette just yet but I have been playing around with it here and there and I can say that I like the texture. It’s creamy without feeling too thick or dry. I know the highlight part won’t work all that well for me but the contour and shimmering highlight are definitely going to be getting lots of love!
