NYX Up the Bass & Goal Digger Matte Lipstick Review

NYX Goal Digger & Up the Bass Matte Lipstick

There’s a lot to love about working at Ulta and a lot to hate too. For instance, I love being the first makeup junkie to check out all of the new releases and receive tons of nice gratis. But the one thing I hate is that it’s incredibly tempting to be around all beauty all the time. Especially when the new releases roll around. I just have to have it all!

When my store received a handful of new NYX releases for Spring I was all over it. There were highlighting and contouring goodies, new glosses and even new Matte Lipstick shades. Now you know I love me some lipstick so I mad dashed for 2 of them that I just couldn’t live without: Up the Bass and Goal Digger.

NYX Up the Bass Matte Lipstick

NYX is known for their unique, out of the box lipstick shades and Up the Bass certainly fits the bill. Up the Bass is a muted lavender with a grey undertone that’s a purple lovers dream. It glides on like butter with a lightweight creamy texture and intense pigmentation. While the color is a little funky, the formula is all good! Up the Bass doesn’t settle into lip lines, bleed or emphasize dryness and it’s quite comfortable to wear too. Up the Bass lasts for around 5-6 hours before fading into an even lavender stain–not all icky and patchy like some purple mattes.

NYX Goal Digger Matte Lipstick

Goal Digger, on the other hand, is a more dupable shade but it’s still quite beautiful. Especially for winter and fall. Goal Digger is a blackened wine with a tinge of brown that’ll look flattering on a variety of complexions. Like Up the Bass, Goal Digger applies with ease and full coverage in a single swipe with a lightweight, creamy texture. Some vampy lipsticks have a tendency to bleed but Goal Digger holds up rather well on its own. Even without a lip liner, I didn’t experience any major bleeding, settling or patchiness–which vampy lipsticks are prone too. Goal Digger is actually quite fuss free and wears for around 6-7 hours before I notice slight fading.

Overall, I’d say NYX did a pretty bang up job with Up the Bass and Goal Digger. Once you try them on, it’s a little hard to believe they’re only 6 bucks a pop. If you’ve been on the hunt for a unique purple or a solid vampy lip then I recommend you hightail it to your local Ulta and snatch them up. They were the first two shades to sell out at my store and there’s plenty of reasons why!

6 Thoughts to “NYX Up the Bass & Goal Digger Matte Lipstick Review”

  1. I couldn’t think of a liner for Up the Bass, so I wore it with the nub of my MAC Grape liner. I liked it but I will definitely try Cyber World. Have you tried Dark Era yet? It is a complicated burgundy red…

    1. Not yet but it’s on my list along with Honeymoon and a couple of the new Butter Glosses. I’m so mad MAC discontinued Grape lip liner though. I bet it would look pretty with the Up the Bass!

Omg, love your hair down, it’s adorable!! =D Both those shades look great, though. NYX is finally tempting me again!

    1. Thank you!! NYX has definitely been reeling me in lately with all of these new products. All of the new lip colors I’ve seen so far have been super pretty!

Love seeing your hair down! Both colors are gorgeous but I need to find Up the Bass. Is it permanent?

    1. Thanks Katherine! You definitely need Up the Bass. It’s your kind of purple! And yes it’s permanent ?
