Ahh drugstore products. Sometimes they’re great and sometimes they’re a disaster. When it comes to certain products like nail polish, lipsticks and glosses I say it’s better to save a few bucks and hit the drugstore. However, when it comes to other products that require a little more maintenance depending on skin type, like foundation and eyeliners, it’s best to spend the few extra bucks at the department stores. This isn’t the case for all foundations and eyeliners though because I’ve discovered some pretty great ones in Maybelline and Milani.
However, some brands just can’t compare in those departments and it appears that NYC is one of them. I received the NYC City Proof 24HR Waterproof Eyeliner in Black in my Influenster Jingle Vox Box and I’m not too pleased with it. I thought it was going to be a hit the first time I applied it because it went on smoothly and evenly with crazy intensity and a slick matte finish. It even seemed to hold up well too–at first.
But the more I wore it, the worse it got. I put the City Proof 24HR Waterproof Eyeliner to the test on my long work days and it didn’t hold up too well at all. By the end of the day, it was smudged all over my hooded lids and if I wore it on my waterline it was sliding to my bottom lid before I could even clock out. The City Proof 24HR Waterproof Eyeliner only delivered solid wear for around 6 hours which is not so impressive considering the 24 hour claim and the fact that my lids are more dry than oily. My eyes are a bit watery throughout the day thanks to my allergies but I’ve never had an eyeliner slide all over the place as much (or as quickly) as the City Proof 24HR Waterproof Eyeliner. I’m really disappointed with the formula because it’s tricky to find a kohl pencil with such a flat matte finish and I thought I’d finally struck gold. But alas, I did not.
If you have oily lids or watery eyes than I suggest you stay far away from the NYC City Proof 24HR Waterproof Eyeliner. It doesn’t perform nearly as well as their lippies and you’ll more than likely end up with raccoon eyes before the sun sets. Instead, I recommend checking out the Urban Decay Black Velvet 24/7 Glide On Eyeliner for your matte black fix.
