The only thing better than good quality drugstore makeup is good quality drugstore makeup that’s on sale. Don’t you agree?? London based Makeup Revolution has been gaining a lot of popularity here in the states that has recently landed them a spot in Ulta. I’ve been eyeing Makeup Revolution for a little while now after reading many good reviews and seeing tons of makeup porn and swatches on Instagram. So I jumped on the opportunity to try out a few products while Makeup Revolution is now buy one get one half off at Ulta. Everything is under $10 which is already super affordable but couple that with the fact that you can grab another product for half off and use Ulta’s $3.50 off coupon and you’ve got yourself a damn good deal!
The last thing I need in my life is another highlighter after picking up the Wet n Wild MegaGlo Highlighters and both of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kits but for just $6 I figured I could squeeze in one more new addition with the Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Highlighter in Golden Lights. In the pan, Golden Lights looks like a pale champagne white with a yellow gold shift. When swatched, Golden Lights turns into this stunning strong yellow gold highlighter that looks like powdered 24 karat gold. I can’t get enough of it! I practically melted when I swatched Golden Lights because it’s such wonderful quality. The formula has a soft, velvety feel with intense pigmentation and very fine shimmer that gives a soft natural glow–not all metallic and glittery looking. I can definitely see why Makeup Revolution is growing such an insane cult following here in the states. The Golden Lights Vivid Baked Highlighter alone deserves all the praise!
Bright blushes can be fun and enticing but nothing floats my boat like a good neutral blush. I love rocking bold and edgy lip colors so most of the time I need a solid nude blush that can carry my look through any wild lip color I’m feeling that day. That’s why I was immediately drawn to theNude Matte Blush out of all the other pretty shades. Nude Matte Blush is a warm rose with a hint of brown that’s a perfect everyday neutral blush for my brown skin. In fact, Nude is a great everyday blush for just about any complexion. It’s perfect! Like the Vivid Baked Highlighter, Nude Matte Blush has a soft, silky texture and lots of pigmentation. It does seem a bit powdery but the quality is still rather impressive for a drugstore matte blush. Nude seems very promising so far so I’m looking forward to giving it a spin very soon.
If you know me, then you know no haul is complete without a lippie or two. I’m currently addicted to liquid lipsticks at the moment so I grabbed a few of the liquid lipsticks and a gloss including:
- More Than I Could Give Salvation Intense Lip Lacquer pinky nude
- Depravity Salvation Velvet Lip Lacquer royal purple
- Vamp Salvation Velvet Lip Lacquer deep purple brown
- Rebel Salvation Velvet Lip Lacquer bold berry with blue shimmer
The Salvation Velvet Lip Lacquer is a liquid to matte lipstick formula that applies with a soft creamy texture and quickly dries to a matte finish within a minute or so. I just applied Rebel as I’m writing this post so I can’t speak too much on the wear but the formula does seem to be the traditional matte liquid lipsticks we’ve grown to know and love. Rebel is a tad drying after it sets but it’s not terribly uncomfortable so far so it appears that it may be similar to ColourPop’s Ultra Matte Lipsticks. As long as Rebel holds up well throughout the night I think I’m going to love it. I also slipped on More Than I Could Give Salvation Intense Lip Lacquer before writing this post and I really like the formula. It applies smoothly with moderate pigmentation and doesn’t feel sticky, heavy or tacky. Instead, the Salvation Intense Lip Lacquer formula seems to be lightly moisturizing and very comfortable to wear alone or as a lipstick topper. I’m already plotting to add a couple more shades to my collection.
My Makeup Revolution goodies are still pretty new to me but so far I’m very impressed with the quality of every product I picked up. Especially for the price. Sometimes drugstore makeup doesn’t always live up to the hype but Makeup Revolution seems to be knocking it out of the park with their products. If you happen to drop by Ulta within the next week, I recommend checking out a few Makeup Revolution products while they’re buy one get one half off. The sale ends on the 28th so I suggest you hurry!
