NYX Honeymoon Matte Lipstick Review

NYX Honeymoon Matte Lipstick

When some people think of drugstore makeup they automatically assume it’s cheap, poor quality makeup that doesn’t look good, last long or apply well. That isn’t always the case though. Especially when it comes to NYX. NYX is one of my favorite drugstore brands because their products are very affordable and usually amazing quality that often gives higher end brands a run for their money. NYX’s line of Matte Lipsticks is a great example of this as they’re comparable to MAC’s Matte Lipsticks at less than half the price.

NYX recently expanded their Matte Lipstick line by adding 12 new shades to ensure that there’s a little something for everybody. One of the most popular new shades turned out to be Honeymoon, a light mauve-pink with a grey undertone. I can certainly understand why Honeymoon was the first of the bunch to sell out at my Ulta store because it’s so easy to wear and looks so good on a variety of skin tones. From fair to deep, Honeymoon makes an edgy yet neutral everyday pink lip that’s girly and sultry at the same time.

Honeymoon has a soft creamy texture that glides across the lips without tugging or pulling against lips. It’s a full coverage formula that completely coats my pigmented lips with color in a single swipe with a creamy matte finish that’s quite comfortable to wear. Some matte lipsticks have a tendency to suck all the moisture out of my dry lips and emphasize flakes and fine lines but Honeymoon is considerably easy to wear. I still prefer to exfoliate and prep with a lip balm beforehand for a smooth application but I find that Honeymoon doesn’t make my lips look or feel crazy dry if I decide to slip it on in a rush.

For a light nude pink, Honeymoon is actually rather easy to pull off and low maintenance. However, if you’re a dark skin diva, I recommend pairing Honeymoon with a deeper lip liner to add definition and keep the color from looking too pale or chalky as it fades. Honeymoon holds tight for around 4-5 hours before it begins to fade into a slightly patchy stain. It doesn’t look crazy dry or scary as it fades away but you definitely want to keep it on hand for quick touchups as the grey undertone really starts to takeover once Honeymoon starts giving way. Otherwise, I think Honeymoon is a great nude lip option for matte lipstick lovers and newbies alike. The color and formula are pretty easy to wear making the NYX Honeymoon Matte Lipstick a steal at just $6. I definitely recommend it!
