Tarte VIP The Lip Sculptor Lipstick & Lip Gloss Review

Tarte VIP The Lip Sculptor Lipstick & Lip Gloss

Whenever I see double ended makeup I automatically think cheap. Usually double ended makeup (like lippies and brushes) are made with lower quality ingredients or flimsy packaging that doesn’t always feel good or work well. I’m not gonna lie. I cringed when I found out I was going to Tarte’s Double Duty Beauty Collection training for Ulta because I just knew it was going to be a bunch of cheap, gimmicky products that I wasn’t going to like. However, the Double Duty Beauty Collection actually turned out to be a rather solid collection. Leave it to Tarte to tackle double ended makeup and nail it!

The Double Duty Beauty Collection features a few double ended products like eyeliner and shadow, brushes and lipstick and gloss too. I thought I would like The Lip Sculptor Lipstick & Lip Gloss duos the least but they’re actually turning out to be my favorite products in the collection. The Lip Sculptor Lipstick & Gloss features a full coverage lipstick and matching semi-sheer lipgloss in 8 shades. I have 2 of them in my collection and I’m pleased to report that they’re nothing like the cheap lippie duos we’ve seen in the past.

One of the shades I own is VIP, a cool peachy nude with a creamy satin finish and sweet vanilla scent. The color is slightly on the pale side but with a good lip liner I think it’s very wearable and easy for many skin tones to pull off. VIP is formulated with Vitamin A, C, and E as well as Maracuja oil so it’s incredibly creamy and feels like butter on the lips while offering some antioxidant protection against free-radicals too. VIP glides on like a dream with full coverage and a light sheen that makes my lips look supple and juicy. It wears comfortably for around 3-4 hours before fading away into a light stain.

The matching lip gloss is also a treat on the lips! VIP lip gloss feels just as smooth and buttery as the lipstick without feeling heavy, tacky or sticky. In fact, VIP lip gloss has a very lightweight texture that’s lightly moisturizing and conditions my dry lips while adding a sheer peachy wash of color that’s easy to toss on and go. VIP lip gloss has enough pigment to wear on its own but it’s still sheer enough to layer over the lipstick without feeling heavy or looking cakey. The gloss wears for around 2-3 hours which is pretty standard for a gloss. However, it seems to last a little longer when layered over the lipstick.

I had my doubts about The Lip Sculptor but I have to give Tarte their props for them. The VIP lipstick and lip gloss actually mesh very well together for a complete lip look that’s girly yet sophisticated. You go Tarte! The Double Duty Beauty Collection is an Ulta exclusive so you can only find it in stores there or you can order it online from Tarte. I’m also giving away a VIP Lip Sculptor Lipstick & Gloss in my summer giveaway so if you’re feeling it then you should enter my giveaway here. Good luck!

VIP looks nice! What are the other shades that you have? I own Voltage and now I need more! That lipstick was so creamy and buttery.

    1. I love it! I also have Renegade which is a really pretty berry pink. I think I’m going to get Rogue next. Now I’m curious to see if I need Voltage too lol. The formula is just too good!
