When you already have a rich, deep skin tone finding a bronzer is tough work. Most bronzers are a pale golden tan or barely there bronze that only work for light to medium complexions. It’s not too often that you see an actual bronzer (not a highlighter) designed to add warmth and subtle definition to brown skin. Which is a bummer because even us dark skin divas like to look warmed up and kissed by the sun too. Thankfully, a handful of makeup brands realized brown skin could use a little bronzer too and created bronzers deep enough for us gals on the darker side of the spectrum to use. Finding the perfect bronzer for brown skin can still be a bit tricky because everyone hasn’t hopped on board yet so I’ve decided to share my top 3 bronzer choices that work like a charm for my deep brown skin.
Too Faced Dark Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzing Powder ($30.00)
Too Faced isn’t the most brown skin friendly brand when it comes to face products (shade but no shade!) but the Dark Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzing Powder works surprisingly well for medium to deep complexions. In the pan, it looks like the typical warm pale tan that gets lost on brown skin but when applied it magically turns into this deep neutral bronze that instantly warms up the face and even acts as a subtle contour too. The Dark Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzing Powder works well on its own to bronze up my brown skin but my favorite way to use it is as a setting powder for my cream contours. It works very well this way as it’s slightly sheer yet buildable so it’s perfect for layering. Or even bronzer beginners who want a natural sunkissed look.
Bobbi Brown Deep Bronzing Powder ($42.00)
Years ago, I thought I’d never find a matte bronzer for my skin tone until I came across Bobbi Brown’s Bronzing Powder in Deep. It’s a warm cinnamon bronze with a matte finish that’s my holy grail bronzer. It’s very warm (much warmer than Dark Chocolate Soleil) so it really adds a nice warm flush to my complexion as if I’ve been blushing in the sun all day. Bobbi’s Deep Bronzing Powder has become my go to bronzer because it actually shows up nicely on brown skin with great pigmentation yet it blends smoothly and easily so it looks very natural. I mostly wear the Deep Bronzing Powder on its own when I’m too pressed for time for a full on contour because it adds warm dimension and very subtle definition that helps define my round face. When I do contour, I like to add a little bit of Deep Bronzing Powder right above my contour to give me a natural warmth and help transition my contour into my blush for a seamless transition.
CoverGirl Queen Collection Ebony Natural Hue Bronzer ($8.29)
When I first discovered the wonderful world of highlighting and contouring I thought I’d never find a contour powder deep enough to make my cheek bones look sharp and chiseled. After I did a little digging, I came across a ton of great reviews about the CoverGirl Queen Collection Ebony Natural Hue Bronzer. Tons of dark skin divas seemed to love it so I went on a quest for it and finally found it at my local Target. I soon found out why so many ladies loved the Ebony Natural Hue Bronzer. It’s an amazing bronzer and contouring powder for deep skin. Ebony is a deep, warm cinnamon bronze with a hint of shimmer that gives it a natural satin finish that looks amazing on the skin. It’s warm enough to add some warmth and color to the cheeks but also dark enough to use alone as a contour to help define cheekbones. It’s hard to believe the Ebony Natural Hue Bronzer is under $10 because it’s amazing quality and everything a dark skin diva needs to look sunkissed and chiseled all summer long.
