ColourPop Pillow Talk Matte X Lippie Stix Review

ColourPop Pillow Talk Matte X Lippie Pencil

Summer usually calls for bright, glossy lips but there’s nothing wrong with being a rebel and taking a walk on the matte nude side. ColourPop recently released a new line of Matte X Lippie Stix that sports an ultra matte, shine-free finish in a variety of shades. I picked up a couple of pinks, of course, but I also had my eye on a few nudes too. Especially Pillow Talk. I love me some brown and grey nudes so when I saw that ColourPop combined the best of both worlds with the new Pillow Talk Matte X Lippie Stix I was all over it.

Pillow Talk is a light mauvey brown with a grey undertone and ultra matte finish that’s surprisingly flattering on a variety of skin tones. From fair to deep, Pillow Talk looks edgy, sexy and super wearable. I especially love how it looks on my brown skin because it’s such an easy to wear effortless nude that doesn’t look pale or chalky. I still like to use a lip liner to give the color a little definition but Pillow Talk is far from the Tyrone Biggums type of nudes that we usually see this time of year.

My lips get crazy dry sometimes so I was a little nervous about the new Matte X formula but it’s actually very easy to apply and surprisingly easy on dry lips. The Matte X formula is similar to MAC’s Retro Matte formula as it sports the same ultra matte finish but I find that ColourPop’s take on the formula is much better. Pillow Talk glides on smoothly and evenly without tugging or pulling (unlike some MAC Retro Mattes) which makes application a breeze. You should definitely still exfoliate and moisturize before application but the Matte X formula is still rather forgiving on dry lips without emphasizing dry flakes much or settling into lip lines. Which is incredibly impressive for a matte nude. Especially an ultra matte nude!

Pillow Talk also has some pretty good staying power too. It manages to stay put for around 6-7 hours before beginning to fade. As I mentioned before, exfoliating and moisturizing before hand is the way to go for the best results as the Matte X formula can spotlight imperfections a little more and can start feel drying as it wears off. The formula isn’t nearly as drying as most ultra matte lipsticks I’ve tried (including ColourPop’s own Ultra Matte Lips) but it isn’t the most moisturizing either. Overall, I really enjoy ColourPop’s Pillow Talk Matte X Lippie Stix and think it’s a steal at just $5. I definitely like Pillow Talk more than some of my MAC Retro Mattes for sure!

It looks awesome on you, Fancie! Dunno if I could tolerate the formula, I have to avoid their liquid lippies like the plague. But you probably take much better care of your lips than I do, lol! Looking gorgeous as always. 😀
