Literally every time you blink there’s something new at Ulta. Rather it be Mass or Prestige, there’s a new collection or product popping up everyday that’s bound to catch your eye. One of the most innovative brands at Ulta that’s constantly churning out new products is NYX. This year, they’ve been on a serious roll this year releasing entire lines of new products every season. For fall, NYX has added 2 new gloss formulas, extended the Liquid Suede Lip Cream shade lineup, revamped the High Voltage lipsticks and came out with a new line of lip liners. Trust me when I say it’s a lot!
You know me. I love me some lipstick and even gloss from time to time so I’m interested in picking up a handful of new lippies at some point. But the main thing that caught my eye was the new Matte Suede Lip Liners. I love lipstick as much as the next makeup junkie but I happen to love lip liners just as much as they provide definition and jazz up lipsticks and glosses with ease. I used to just throw on a lipstick and go but now it’s rare if I don’t line my lips with a coordinating or slightly deeper lip liner before applying my lipstick. So adding to my collection is a must!
The NYX Matte Suede Lip Liners look a lot like they’re original Slim Lip Pencils but the formula is a bit different. The Suede Matte Lip Pencil features a more dense, pigmented formula with a velvety matte finish that instantly locks in place. It’s not quite as creamy as the Slim Lip Pencils but it still manages to glide on smoothly without feeling too drying. The first application seemed a little rough on the lips after using ColourPop’s ultra creamy Lippie Pencils for a while but once I got used to the stiffer texture I began to like the Matte Suede Lip Liners. Since they’re not quite as creamy, they don’t seem to travel or bleed nearly as much as ColourPop’s Lippie Pencils which is definitely a win for sharp, crisp matte lips for fall.
There’s a whopping 36 shades to choose from which can be super intimidating to choose from when you first glance at the display. However, it’s all broken down by color family with some shades sporting the same names as your favorite lipsticks, like Aria, and original Slim Lip Liners, like Prune. I literally want like 10 shades (maybe more) but somehow I managed to start small with just 4 shades including:
- Subversive Socialite mid-tone lilac-violet
- Prune sangria purple
- Oh, Put It On deep dark purple
- Club Hopper deep brown
I live for a good purple liner because purple pairs well with so many colors. I can easily throw on a vampy purple liner with a mauvey nude, pink, red or brown lipstick. That’s why I ended up with 3 different shades of purple. Subversive Socialite will work well with my lighter pink, lilac and mauve lippies. While Prune and Sangria will pair well with my deeper red, brown and berry lippies to give me a perfect fall lip. However, Club Hopper turned out to be my favorite of the bunch because it’s that classic 90s brown lip liner that I’ve been dying to find without spending an arm and a leg. Granted, I’ll mostly be using it for just nudes but brown lip liner is a makeup staple and NYX definitely nailed it with Club Hopper. If you haven’t tried any of the Matte Suede Lip Liners yet, I suggest you head to your local Ulta to check them out. The shade range and quality is incredible at just $4 a pop!
