A lot of people may equate Detroit with crime but there’s so much more to this beautiful city! Its citizens are resilient, hard working and many of them are so creative that it’ll blow your minds. Detroit is quickly becoming a bustling playground art and entrepreneurship of all kinds. Makeup included!
The Lip Bar is a Detroit based makeup brand that specializes in making beautiful funky colored lipsticks. It was founded by Melissa Butler who sprinkled her unique blend of #blackgirlmagic to manifest a successful business that empowers women and makes them feel sexy. After her failed pitch on Shark Tank, Melissa used the harsh criticism to turn the Lip Bar into a powerful black owned makeup brand that is now sold at Target. Talk about an inspiration! You go girl!
I got a chance to attend the 5 Year Anniversary party here in the city last week so I took advantage of the opportunity to meet some amazing people and buy some lipstick, of course! In true Detroit hustler spirit, Melissa arranged small display tables for guests to swatch and try a handful of liquid lipsticks and traditional lipsticks. You know I had to make my way over to the lippie table to take a peek!
I’ve never tried any products from The Lip Bar but I’ve always been curious because so many people rave about them. Truthfully, I should have been ordered a few lippies to try but I kept putting it off until now. After swatching a few of her liquid lipsticks, I was convinced that I needed to buy them right then and there. And it definitely helped that everything was $5 off. So instead of being a good girl and just buying one, I bought three. 😉
All of the lipsticks were beautiful but I fell head over heels for 3 Liquid Matte Lipsticks including:
- Bawse Lady vibrant cherry red
- Savage warm chocolate brown
- Man Eater deep peachy beige
I love them all but I was instantly drawn to Savage because I’m a serious brown lip junkie. I’ve been wearing it everyday since the party and I’m quite impressed with the formula. It’s very lightweight and goes on creamy before drying to a comfortable matte finish after a minute so. I found Savage super easy to apply and rather easy on the lips so I can definitely see myself wearing it quite often this year. I can also see myself wearing Man Eater out because it is the perfect nude for brown skin beauties. Add a little brown liner and gloss? Girl, yaaaas! If you’re new to The Lip Bar, though, I recommend trying Bawse Lady first. It’s the perfect red that’s not too bright yet not too deep so it looks beautiful on all complexions. You seriously can’t go wrong with Bawse Lady! Or any of The Lip Bar Liquid Matte Lipsticks, honestly. You’re missing out if you haven’t tried The Lip Bar yet!
