My Top 5 MAC Brushes

MAC 129, 168, 159, 286, 209 Makeup Brush Review

Happy Monday! I know you’re dreading the start of yet another work week but at least I’m here to brighten your dreary Monday with a little MAC love. Last time, we dove into some of my favorite coral lipsticks and favorite highlighters from MAC so I figured I’d keep the faves train going and share my top 5 MAC makeup brush picks. Who couldn’t use a good makeup brush or two?

MAC has been in the makeup game for decades so it’s no surprise that their brushes are arguably still considered to be top of the line for professional makeup artists. When I first started buying MAC brushes I was nowhere near close to being a professional. However, I loved the quality of MAC’s brushes and how well they applied and blended my makeup. Like a good pair of shoes, a good set of makeup brushes can truly help a girl conquer the world! Here’s a peek at my top 5 MAC brushes:

MAC 209 Eyeliner Brush Review

MAC 209 Eyeliner Brush ($20.00)

If you know me, you know I can’t live without a good wing! Whether I’m feeling natural or dramatic, winged eyeliner instantly adds a touch of glamour and edge while carving out my eyes perfectly. The key to a good wing, though, is a great eyeliner brush and the MAC 209 Eyeliner Brush is superb! The MAC 209 Eyeliner Brush is very small and fine with a very precise tip that makes it incredibly easy to pick up just the right amount of eyeliner to glide and flick across the eyes. The extremely precise tip makes it easy for me to create small cat eyes or bold eagle wings with a flick of my wrist. Plus, the synthetic bristles make it super easy to maneuver through thick creams and gels. The MAC 209 Eyeliner Brush is a must have for liner junkies or anyone who struggles with creating fine, crisp lines.

MAC 286 Duo Fibre Tapered Blending Brush Review

MAC 286 Duo Fibre Tapered Blending Brush ($32)

I’d be lying if I said $32 wasn’t a lot of money to spend on an eyeshadow brush but this one is totally worth it! Think of the MAC 286 Duo Fibre Tapered Blending Brush as an investment. For over 4 years, I’ve been using the MAC 286 Duo Fibre Tapered Blending Brush religiously to apply and blend eyeshadows in my crease. It’s actually my holy grail brush for applying my transition shadows because it picks up just the right amount of pigment and diffuses it perfectly with little effort thanks to its blend of natural and synthetic bristles. Whether I’m creating a smoky look or keeping it natural, the MAC 287 Duo Fibre Tapered Blending Brush will be in my hand getting the job done like it’s nothing!

MAC 159 Duo Fibre Blush Brush Review

MAC 159 Duo Fibre Blush Brush ($35.00)

MAC may have intended for this beauty to be used for blush but the 159 Duo Fibre Blush Brush is one of the best highlighting brushes on the market. Hands down! The MAC 159 Duo Fibre Blush Brush comes equipped with both natural and synthetic bristles making it ideal for powders, liquids and creams. The natural bristles pick up just the right amount of product while the synthetic bristles buff and blend everything into the skin. The result? A flawless glow that looks natural and lit from within. Basically, the MAC 159 Duo Fibre Blush Brush is like a magic wand for your cheeks and you need it.

MAC 168 Large Angled Contour Brush Review

MAC 168 Large Angled Contour Brush ($35.00)

If you’ve been in the makeup game for a while, this brush probably needs no introduction for you! When it comes to MAC brushes, the 168 Large Angled Contour Brush is one of the oldest cult fave classics that’s in pretty much every established makeup junkie’s arsenal. Once I started getting the hang of makeup, the MAC 168 Large Angled Contour Brush was one of the first high end brushes I invested in. Initially, I only wanted it for blush because the MAC 168 Large Angled Contour Brush is shaped perfectly for sweeping blush onto the apples of cheeks effortlessly. The more experienced I became, the more I began to use the MAC 168 Large Angled Contour Brush for contouring and bronzing. The natural bristles blend powder products seamlessly and the brush head is the perfect size for even my small face. The MAC 168 Large Angled Contour Brush is definitely still worth the buy!

MAC 129 Powder/Blush Brush Review

MAC 129 Powder/Blush Brush ($35.00)

The MAC 129 Powder/Blush Brush is another cult classic that’s been hanging around for some years now. The MAC 129 Powder/Blush Brush is a nice sized round, domed brush that’s suitable for blush and all over face powder as the name implies. When I first purchased the MAC 129 Powder/Blush brush, I loved using it to apply my blush because it was easy to apply blush exactly where I needed it and blend it out without too much effort. Now, I use it more so to apply my bronzer and contour as it’s dense and fluffy enough to pick up enough product and blend it nicely without diffusing color everywhere. The MAC 129 Powder/Blush is a great option for anyone looking for a nice sized multitasking brush.
