CoverGirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation Swatches & Review

These drugstore brands are not playing with y’all! I love long walks through Sephora just as much as the next girl. But handing over huge chunks of change every time I go is what I don’t love. That’s why I opt for drugstore products here and there. They’re lighter on my pockets and have been blowing my socks off lately. Take the new CoverGirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation for instance. This stuff is incredible!

The New Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation

The CoverGirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation hit stores recently and took the beauty world by storm. The Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation is a vitamin enriched formula with a special antioxidant complex. It’s lightly hydrating and offers buildable medium to full coverage with a demi-matte finish that looks like skin. The Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation is oil free making it a great option for all skin types. Including oily as it helps to minimize oil and shine, too.

The Color Range is Abysmal…

It took me a while to finally try the CoverGirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation, though. Because the color range is God awful! The Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation comes in 14 shades but only 7 of them are carried in stores. And only 2 of them are suitable for women of color. Not cool, CoverGirl! The Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation has received rave reviews and wonderful feedback since its release. So I’m hoping CoverGirl gets it together because they truly have a gem on their hands!

But They Got One Right…

I use the second darkest shade, 765 Tawny. Tawny is a warm golden olive brown that I figured was too light for me. I actually bought the deepest shade to mix with it, too. Until I decided to finally Try Tawny on a whim. CoverGirl nailed this shade! I’m so used to brands going a bit off the deep end with the red undertones for deeper complexions. I’ve actually gotten comfortable with foundations that are so orange they tread into Oompa Loompa territory. I didn’t even realize it until I tried Tawny. This is my perfect match! Tawny isn’t too warm and it isn’t too red so it evens my skin tone wonderfully. Upon application, it seems a bit more golden but it pulls a bit more red once it dries down. As it oxidizes just a teeny bit once it sets. The color alone is one major reason I keep reaching for the Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation!

Application

The CoverGirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation is one of the easiest foundations to apply. It’s very lightweight so you’re free to add layers for extra coverage without looking cakey. Or feeling heavy. You can apply the Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation with your fingers, a makeup sponge or your favorite brush. The choice is truly yours!

I’ve applied the Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation every way under the sun with great results. If you like it natural, I recommend using your fingers to really melt the formula into your skin for a seamless finish. Or you can opt for a sponge (like a Beauty Blender) for a little more coverage and an airbrush finish. Want that full coverage look? Then you’ll certainly prefer a nice, dense brush like my signature ELF Powder Brush.

Wear & Longevity

CoverGirl loaded the Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants so it can hold its own without a primer. Granted, that’s if your skincare routine is A-1. A good primer will definitely be your friend with the Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation, though! It seems to play nicely with silicone and water based primers without fail. On its own or on top of primer, the Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation glides across skin effortlessly with a creamy yet weightless luminous finish upon application. It soon sets down to a semi-matte finish that stays put for around 9-10 hours before it begins to crack around my smile lines and settle under my eyes.

The CoverGirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation may be suitable for all skin types. But it’s a dream for dry skin! I’ve been using this foundation religiously because it gives me great coverage and a healthy glow that lasts all day long. And it’s even better when paired with a good primer and setting powder. Then it’s practically indestructible!

Is the CoverGirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation worth it?

Yes and no. The formula is absolutely superb and rivals some of my high end favorites like Fenty Beauty and Dior. But that shade range though! CoverGirl only offers two shades for deep skin in the Vitalist Healthy Elixir range. Making it practically impossible to recommend to my chocolate cuties at the moment. Hopefully, CoverGirl gets their ish together and releases more shades! In the meantime, you can find the CoverGirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation at Ulta and other drugstores and super stores for about $10.
