Shimmering Blushes for Summer!

Too Faced Something About Berry Sweethearts Perfect Flush Blush, Sephora Hot Flush Colorful Blush, Milani Blossomtime Rose Blush, Becca Foxglove Shimmering Skin Perfector Luminous Blush, Milani Bella Amore Baked Blush

For most people, blush isn’t the most necessary product for a complete makeup look. However, we all need a little blush to brighten, lift and add a nice touch of color to the face. Especially in the summer! Bronzers typically take center stage in the summer but it’s important to make sure you incorporate a little blush too to give you that naturally flushed rush of color that just screams color. I’m not going to lie to you. I don’t always wear blush every time I wear makeup but I always feel sassier and more pulled together when my cheeks are topped with a nice blush that sets everything off. Like a nice shimmering blush that amplifies my highlight and makes me look sunkissed and rosy. That’s why I’ve put together this handy shimmering blush guide to help you perk up those cheeks this season. Let’s get started, shall we?

Smashbox Culver City Coral L.A. Lights Blush & Highlight Palette Review

Smashbox Culver City Coral L.A. Lights Blush & Highlight Palette

Finding brands that you love is a great feeling but sometimes that love can blind you from seeing the beauty of other brands. I used to be a supreme MAC junkie but eventually I grew out of MAC and started trying other brands. Since I’ve started working for Ulta, I’ve discovered the beauty of Tarte, Too Faced and now Smashbox. I used to walk right past Smashbox without even noticing but I’ve come to realize that their products are actually pretty good. In fact, Smashbox is a seriously underrated brand that deserves a lot more love!

Matte Blushes for Summer!

MAC Fleeting Romance Pro Longwear Blush, NYX Code Breaker Ombre Blush, Tarte Tipsy Amazonian Clay Blush, Black Radiance Toasted Almond Artisan Color Baked Blush, Bobbi Brown Pink Blush

I know bronzer gets all the summer love but blush is still important too! A pretty blush gives you a healthy flush of color, balances your makeup looks and can even brighten and lift your face (and spirits). I know shimmering blushes aren’t everyone’s cup of tea though. Which is understandable because some of us don’t always like to shimmer or, in my case, love to pile on highlighters so a shimmering blush isn’t always ideal. Thankfully, there’s plenty of matte blushes on the market that not only add a touch of color to cheeks but also help to sculpt and add a little dimension helping your cheeks (and bronzer) pop even more. That’s why I’ve gathered my top 5 matte blush picks to help you find your perfect matte flush this summer. Take a look!

More Becca x Jaclyn Goodies on the Way!

Becca x Jaclyn Hill Collection for Summer 2016

Just when you thought the Becca x Jaclyn Hill saga was over Becca pulls more tricks out of their bag. And I’m loving it! Because a girl can never have too many highlighters (or blush), Becca decided to follow up the insanely popular Champagne Collection Face Palette with a new lineup of Champagne Splits–a highlight and blush duo compact. As if that wasn’t mind blowing enough, Becca is also taking a new spin on their iconic Shimmering Skin Perfectors by making them into travel-friendly cream pencils that can be used on the face, eyes and lips for a summer ready an all over glow. I’m not going to lie. I’m beyond overloaded on highlighter and blush for the next 2 lifetimes but these glow goodies look absolutely gorgeous!

Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection Face Palette

When Becca and Jaclyn Hill announced that they were releasing an entire collection based around her famous limited edition Champagne Pop Shimmering Skin Perfector they practically broke the internet. Everyone went nuts! I’m not gonna lie. I got a little excited myself because Champagne Glow is beautiful and Becca really knows how to whip up a perfect cheek palette. However, I kept telling myself that I didn’t need it because I’ve been buying a ton of highlighters lately and I already own the Champagne Glow Palette and Afterglow Palette from Becca’s holiday collection. But you know me. The more pictures and swatches I seen of the Becca x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection Face Palette pushed me to want it more and more. It’s just looked so beautiful!

Rock Cute Lips & Cheeks All Summer with Tarte!

Cute Lips & Cheeks All Summer with Tarte

I don’t know about you but I just love sales! A few weeks ago, Tarte was feeling super generous with a 30% off sitewide sale. Most times, I take sitewide sales with a grain of salt because they don’t actually include everything on the site like the name implies. Especially Tarte’s. Tarte is known for handing out discount codes like Oprah hands out cars that you can’t even use on the really good stuff like their new or limited edition products. This time around, though, things were different. You could actually take 30% off sitewide. No gimmicks! So I did what any normal makeup junkie would do. I ordered up all of the new stuff I wanted and then tossed in a blush for good measure.

Well, Hello Smashbox!

Well, Hello Smashbox!

Don’t you just love trying out new brands? I do too! There are certain brands that’ll always be my go to for certain products like Too Faced for eyeshadow, Anastasia (or Becca) for highlighters and ColourPop for lipsticks. Every now and then, I like to branch out and see what other fish are in the sea. Just for a little more variety, you know? After months of playing and swatching Smashbox products here and there I finally got a chance to get my hands on a few products and I’m pretty happy that I gave them a chance.

MAC Haul!

MAC Haul: Otherearthly Mineralize Skinfinish, Adobe Brick Blush, Dunes at Dusk Gleamtones Powder

Years ago, I used to be obsessed with MAC. I had to have a piece (or two or three) from every limited edition collection because MAC was the best of the best with the most beautiful lipsticks, eyeshadows and compacts I’d ever seen. Then I grew up. After years of racing to the MAC site and counter to get my hands on the latest shiny new collection I soon grew tired of the rat race. Makeup is supposed to be fun not stressful! It appears that MAC is beginning to learn their lesson with super limited edition collections because now they’re much easier to shop with plenty of product to go around for everybody. Finally!

There’s tons of good brands to discover in Ulta but one that’s often overlooked is Ulta’s own Beauty Collection. I’ve shopped at Ulta for years and never paid any attention to the Ulta Beauty Collection until I began working there. Huge mistake! After curiosity pulled me to swatch a few pretty things I quickly learned that there were some hidden gems in the Ulta Beauty Collection. Like the lipsticks, eyeliners and their cheek goodies too. Especially the cheek products. From blushes to highlighters, the Ulta Beauty Collection has a little something for everybody.

More Urban Decay Please!

Urban Decay Trance Vice Lipstick, Blunt Eyeshadow, Score Afterglow Blush

Ever since I finally tried the Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer and Naked Skin Ultra Definition Powder Foundation I’ve been kinda hooked. I’ve always liked Urban Decay but now I really like Urban Decay! The Naked Skin line is quickly becoming my go to for a flawless complexion and the Revolution lipsticks (now revamped) are hands down my favorite traditional lipsticks right now so I was super pumped when I found out that my team and I were going to be hitting an Urban Decay training to learn all about the brand and new products. Including the upcoming Vice lipsticks. I seriously thought I was going to lose my mind when the Urban Decay makeup artists unveiled the massive Vice Lipstick vice containing all 100 shades. It was probably the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen!

Urban Decay Trance Metallized Lipstick

There were so many lipsticks to choose from that I didn’t know where to start. I wanted to try them all! Of course, there wasn’t nearly enough time for me to try all of the new Vice Lipsticks but I was able to try on two of them and I’m happy to report that Urban Decay is going to knock this release out of the park. My first pick was Conspiracy, a plum bronze shimmer with a Metallized finish. It went on smoothly and evenly with good pigmentation and a lightweight creamy texture that felt very good on the lips. I was expecting the Metallized finish to feel a little gritty on the lips with all that delicious shimmer but Urban Decay managed to make Conspiracy feel like butter on the lips while giving my lips a nice juicy sheen and lots of glitz. It was hard for me to take it off because the color was so beautiful and the formula was so nice. So when I went to try on Disturbed, a deep brick red with a Comfort Matte finish, I decided to create an ombre lip pairing it with Conspiracy. The result was absolutely beautiful as the colors meshed incredibly well together and the Comfort Matte formula is just as smooth, creamy and easy on the lips as the good ol’ Revolution Matte Lipsticks.

Lucky for me, I ended up receiving one of the new Vice Lipsticks in Trance, a nude mauve shimmer in a Metallized finish. It’s a really pretty neutral pink with lots of fine iridescent shimmer that gives it a nice boost from your typical boring nude pink. Like Conspiracy, Trance doesn’t feel hard or gritty at all. It’s very creamy and feels really good on the lips too. Trance makes for a great everyday lipstick and has me super excited to get my hands on other shades. Starting with Conspiracy!

Urban Decay Score Afterglow Blush

Urban Decay was also nice enough to toss in a blush and eyeshadow too. So nice! I ended up receiving Score Afterglow Blush, a medium pink peach with shimmer. Score is a little light for my tastes but it appears to be a little better when layered. I like that it has a hint of golden shimmer in the mix so it won’t look too flat or ashy on my complexion. I’m a big fan of Bittersweet and Rapture so I’m hoping that Score will work in my favor too as the Afterglow formula is actually really nice.

Urban Decay Blunt Eyeshadow

A girl can never have too many gold eyeshadows so I was happy to see that I also received Blunt Eyeshadow. Blunt is a light golden bronze shimmer that’s a very flattering and wearable shades for all skin tones. It’s incredibly pigmented with a soft, finely milled texture that feels super creamy for a powder shadow. I actually popped in on before writing this post and I absolutely adore it. It’s a great everyday lid color that makes my eyes pop nicely without being too shimmery or having too much fallout. I can simply pop it on with my fingers, blend a little and go. My kind of shadow! Between Blunt, Trance and the Naked Skin line I think Urban Decay is soon going to become one of my new favorite brands!
