I love makeup just as much as the next girl. Just not so much in the summer. 🙈 There’s nothing fun about watching your beautiful masterpiece come together and then slide right off the second you walk outside. So tragic! You can always summer-proof your makeup routine by adding a matte primer, setting spray and switching up your foundation. Me? I like to keep it simple most days with minimal makeup for a fresh, radiant look that’s effortless and heat-proof.
That’s what June was all about!
Even, radiant skin with a bold lip (sometimes nude) and flirty falsies with mascara. Beautiful, simple and classic. Oh and summer friendly! Here’s the rundown on all of my June faves that helped me achieve summer beauty bliss:
Social media is seriously changing the world! Sometimes for the worst but most times for the better. Social media has a way of bringing us all together and introducing us to new things and people. It also has a way of bringing about the most peculiar collaborations in the beauty community. Like the new Becca x Chrissy Teigen Glow Face Palette that’s been invading my Instagram feed for over a month now.
Thanks to social media, the world has gotten a taste of Chrissy Teigen’s hilarious, quirky personality to see she’s so much more than a model and singer, John Legend’s wife. Chrissy Teigen has managed to charm the hearts of millions through her Twitter and Instagram account–including Becca. In fact, Becca was so charmed by the beauty that they’ve teamed up with her to create her very own limited edition Glow Face Palette. And the world swoons!
Happy Sunday, makeup lovers! Before I jump right in to some Skincare Sunday goodies, I just have to show you the amazing new, limited edition Urban Decay x Jean-Michael Basquiat Makeup As Art Collection. It’s been a long time since I’ve been excited about an Urban Decay collection. The last Urban Decay collection to catch my eye was the Gwen Stefani Collection. Let’s face it. It was pretty and the packaging was cute but it was ultimately a fail for us dark skin divas.
The Jean-Michael Basquiat Collection is something totally different! The Makeup As Art Collection is bold. It’s vibrant. It’s gritty. It’s surreal. It’s edgy. Basically, the Jean-Michael Basquiat Makeup As Art Collection is everything we’ve grown to know and love about Urban Decay before the incessant Naked craze. Don’t get me wrong. I love a good neutral palette and nude lip as much as any makeup junkie. But every now and then, you’ve got to switch things up and add some color, girl!
Too Faced is all about the cute packaging so it comes as no surprise that their intro to the highlighter game is all glitz and glamour. They may be a little late to the party but Too Faced managed to dazzle us all with their new Love Light Prismatic Highlighters. The Love Light Prismatic Highlighters are everything you’d imagine a Too Faced highlighter to be. Shiny, a little gaudy, maybe a little cheap but still hella cute!
Why be basic when you can be a unicorn? The world is going unicorn crazy right now and I’m all for it! Unicorns are magical and majestic. Everything life should be, in my opinion. If I could, I would go around sprinkling glitter and confetti in a unicorn headband, fairy wings and a scepter. Currently, my schedule doesn’t permit such behavior so I’m living out my dreams vicariously through the new limited edition Tarte Make Believe in Yourself Collection. It’s filled with sparkly, glittery unicorn magic that’ll leave you feeling like a glowing mythical creature.
Pastels have always reminded me of Easter. Which is when I intended to post this. Whoops! I’ve been a little under the weather lately but I’m bouncing back. Full force, baby! Anywho! It’s just something about pastel colors that intrigues me and makes me feel like a little girl all over again in my big frilly pale pink and cream dresses with the huge ruffle trim sock on Easter Sunday. Oh how I hated those socks sometimes, but those were the days!
When I first saw the LORAC I Love Brunch Collection, I felt little flutters in my heart and stomach because it took me right back to those days all over again. I could just taste the Easter candies as I cracked open the metallic white boxes filled with pastel eyeshadows, lipstick, glosses and more. Such a yummy, sweet treat!
Happy April! I know I’m a couple days late but the start of a fresh, new month is always a cause to celebrate. Especially when it’s pushing us that much closer to summer. Yaaaaas! Besides sunny skies and fun vibes, I’m pretty pumped about April because there’s a ton of new products and collections rolling out right now and it’s got me bouncing off the walls. You know I’m all about enjoying new makeup!
I actually spent a great deal of March exploring new makeup too. After the dust from the holiday madness finally settled, brands started pumping out stuff left and right and I felt like Ash on a never-ending quest to catch them all. Obviously, I failed, because keeping up with every release is just obsessive. However, I did manage to try a handful of new products that turned out to be so amazing that I’m still reaching for them constantly. Here’s a peek at all the products I loved last month:
Anastasia Beverly Hills is known for dropping hot gems on us every release so it’s not surprising that makeup junkies flock to her new products the second they’re available. After dropping 5 beautiful Glow Kits, Anastasia and daughter Norvina, whipped up a 6th one for holiday: the Ultimate Glow Kit. The internet exploded when the teaser pictures and videos went viral showcasing Anastasia’s latest shimmering Glow Kit. It was such an exciting makeup moment!
Until the reviews started pouring in and die hard Glow Kit fans realized that the Ultimate Glow Kit was nothing like the classic Glow Kits we’ve come to know and love. The Ultimate Glow Kit didn’t have that buttery soft, smooth texture or subtle, natural sheen like the Glow Kits before it. Instead, the Ultimate Glow Kit featured a chunkier, more gritty texture loaded with glitter for a metallic glow.
Ulta is coming on up! Not to an apartment on the east side, but to the forefront of the Prestige market. Since Ulta first hit the scene in the 90s, the brand has transformed itself from just another beauty store to one of the biggest retailers of all things beauty. For years, Ulta has been playing catch up with Sephora in an effort to surpass them all while setting Ulta apart from the rest. The full service salon and massive selection of both Mass and Prestige brands has kept Ulta hot on the heels of Sephora for quite some time but this year Ulta is leveling the playing field. And in a major way!
I may not be a die hard MAC girl anymore but MAC will always hold a special place in my heart! That’s why I’m back with a double attack of MAC this Monday. I’ve already got you set with the coral lips for spring so let’s move on to some of the most popping highlighters MAC has ever released. Shall we?
Over the years, I’ve grown a serious addiction to MAC highlighters. The Extra Dimension Skinfinish ones to be exact. MAC describes their Extra Dimension Skinfinish formula as:
A liquid-powder highlighter that gives a luminous, well-defined finish.”
