Iman Luxury Contour Trio Review

Iman Luxury Contour Trio

When you have dark skin it’s easy to get caught up on the idea that you need to spend the big bucks to find a decent contour. More brands have started hopping on board by adding deeper shades but they come with a hefty price tag that doesn’t always seem worth it if you’re just a beginner or don’t contour as often. Or just want options without breaking the bank. Leave it to Iman to know exactly how us dark skin divas are feeling and catering to our needs. You go, Iman!

Iman Luxury Contour Trio

Last fall, Iman whipped up the Luxury Contour Trio featuring a contour powder, bronzer and highlighter all wrapped in a chic black plastic compact with a mirror. At first glance, the Luxury Contour seems really shimmery but it still manages to work out beautifully. The contour shade even contains a hint of shimmer in the pan but it doesn’t translate much at all once applied–and I like that. The contour is a deep neutral brown with just a touch of shimmer to keep it from looking too flat or dull. The bronzer, on the other hand, is a shimmer factory and I love it! It’s a warm golden bronze loaded with fine shimmer that’ll easily give you a housewife-like glow that can be spotted a mile away in the dark. Ironically, it packs more of a punch than the highlighter. The highlighter is a sheer warm champagne with a hint of golden shimmer that delivers a softer, more natural kind of glow. I thought it was weird at first but it makes sense considering the bronzer is so shimmery. Together, they create a lovely glow that really makes my cheeks pop without crossing over into metallic territory and emphasizing the texture of my skin.

My only gripe with the Luxury Contour Trio is that it’s incredibly pigmented (minus the highlighter) and takes some effort to blend so you have to be very careful. The first time I tried it I applied way too much and almost died when I checked my makeup in natural light. The Luxury Contour Trio is no joke! I recommend using a lightweight fan brush for the bronzer and a duo fiber brush for the contour along with a very light hand. Maybe a spare blending brush on hand too. Less is definitely more with the Luxury Contour Trio and it’s quite easy to go overboard. Especially if you’re heavy handed like me.

Once you get the hang of the application, the Luxury Contour Trio will more than likely become your best friend. It definitely sculpts and highlights for the gods and it doesn’t fade easily either. The Luxury Contour Trio survives my long work days without much fading at all. I get over 8 hours of solid wear from the bronzer and contour. The highlight seems to fade a little faster since it’s so sheer but the bronzer glows so much on its own I barely noticed the fading. If you’ve been struggling to find a nice contour kit without spending an arm and a leg then I think the Luxury Contour Trio is certainly worth a try. Since it’s Iman, the price point is a little higher than other drugstore options ($16) but it’s well worth the extra pennies and quite comparable to higher end brands. I’ve been wearing it all week and I’m quite impressed with the quality. The Luxury Contour Trio is exactly the drugstore contour kit WOC have been yearning for!
