New Year, New NYX!

We’re gonna take a quick break from the 2015 highlight reel for a second to talk about some new makeup. New NYX in particular. NYX made leaps and bounds expanding their line in 2015 and this year they’re keeping the ball rolling with a ton of new products for spring.

I actually stumbled upon the display when I came into work one morning and couldn’t wait to play with everything. There’s highlighting and contouring goodies, new lipsticks and shades, blush, eyeliner and more. And it’s all available exclusively at Ulta so get your coupons ready!

One the most exciting new releases for me were the highlight and contour sets. NYX is notorious for duping high end brands with formulas that rival the real thing so I couldn’t wait to try these babies out. There’s a Sculpt & Highlight Face Duo which features a liquid formula and the Highlight & Contour Palette which has a cream formula and includes a shimmering highlight as well. The shade range looked limited at first but I do like that the darkest shades are actually deep enough to cover WOC. There’s still room for a little more but I could tell NYX put some effort to expanding their color range this year, too.

Let there be new lipsticks!  Not only did NYX drop 10 new shades of Matte Lipsticks but they also released a new line of Full Throttle Lipsticks which NYX describes as:

It’s the color addicts ultimate fix and a makeup artist’s dream: NYX Cosmetics’ waterproof Full Throttle Lipstick covers your lips with a super saturated matte color and features a unique bullet with a beveled edge for lining, filling and perfecting your pout to your heart’s desire.

There’s 6 shades in the range that are ultra pigmented and super creamy. Most of the shades sold out pretty quickly at my Ulta but I’m hoping to get my hands on all of the shades when we restock. I did manage to snag a couple of the new Matte Lipstick shades I wanted though. Which was a huge win for me because they sold pretty quickly too. NYX added a handful of traditional pinks, reds and nudes but we also get some more unique, out-of-the box colors too. Like grey. ?

You can’t bring in the new year without glitter so NYX launched a new line of glitters plus a Glitter Primer and some bright liners to start things off right. To kick up the ante, NYX whipped up the Vivid Brights Eyeliners in eye popping shades like neon green, blue, red and more. If you’re feeling daring, you can top off your neon Vivid Brights Eyeliner with the new Face & Body Glitter and Glitter Primer. Now that’s how you bring in 2016!

Last but certainly not least, NYX added 2 beautiful new shades to their Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator Line: Pure Gold, a bronze gold, and Sun Goddess, a coppery bronze. I absolutely want them both! We also finally see the Whipped Lip & Cheek Souffles come to life in 8 shades ranging from warm nudes to bold pinks and purples. I’ve always been a little leery to try lip and cheek products but the colors and packaging are super cute. I may end up trying one or two.

Will you be grabbing any of the new NYX products for spring?

I’m really looking forward to trying those cream contour kits, can’t wait for those to hit my local store.

    1. I hope your store gets them soon. I just tried the palette yesterday and it was life! The contour is nice and deep and the highlight is beautiful

I snagged the cream contour palette in deep and I have already put it to use. As usual great product for a fraction of the high end prices. I was excited about the new shades of Illuminators. I have one of the original shades, but these are definitely a plus for us women of color.

    1. I finally cracked open my palette yesterday and I couldn’t agree more. NYX has done it again! I’m going back for those new illuminators soon though. They look amazing on brown skin!

The lip & cheek souffle product is the only one catching my eye. Sort of having a falling out with NYX lately because of the prices. >:( Still, looks like some of these were good releases!

    1. It’s funny you mentioned the prices because I was just talking about them with my coworker the other day. The lippies are still rather affordable but the prices on the their new face product releases is inching into prestige almost. I noticed it when they released their powder contour palette at close to $30. I understand the approach NYX is trying to take as an alternative artistry brand but even with coupons they’re starting to push it..

Yeah… let’s be honest, people are normally buying drugstore because they aren’t loaded (or because they’re a makeup addict, hey). ;P Kind of alienating their target audience.

        1. I completely agree! Now I only buy NYX when I have coupons or something. They’re going to rival MAC prices soon and I don’t know if I’m ready for that..
