NYX Cream Highlight & Contour Palette Review

NYX Cream Highlight & Contour Palette Deep

If you thought highlighting and contouring was a trend left in 2015 then you’re sadly mistaken! I could probably live without those wacky videos where chicks draw all kinds of weird shapes on their face in an effort to highlight and contour though. However, I fully embrace another wave of highlighting and contouring products–especially in deeper shades. Sometimes brands tend to forget that gals darker than a MAC NC35 like to contour too so it can be difficult for us WOC. However, NYX is bridging the gap with their new highlighting and contouring products and I’m quite impressed!

NYX released 2 highlighting and contouring products for spring: a liquid duo and a cream palette. Of course, I snagged them both and I’m quite fond of them. Especially the Cream Highlight & Contour Palette in Deep. It’s a nice sized cream palette that features a deep contour, shimmering highlight and concealer to sculpt and define for the makeup gods.

There’s only 3 shades in the range and I picked up the darkest in Deep. I was pleasantly surprised when the concealer turned out to be a bit too dark for me but I chose not to return it because the contour looked perfect and the next shade up looked a little too light for my tastes. I really hope NYX expands the Cream Highlight & Contour line to include more shades  because the formula is really good!

Although I can’t technically highlight with the concealer, the Cream Highlight & Contour Palette is still a wonderful palette that I’ll definitely be keeping handy. All 3 shades are nicely pigmented with a soft, creamy texture that blends like a dream. The concealer turned out to be a hair darker than my complexion but it still seemed to work well. Most concealers crease on me almost immediately but this one has a slightly thicker consistency that seems to hold up pretty well. I so wish the next shade up wasn’t so light!

The contour is a deep neutral brown that’s quite dark so a little goes a very long way. I actually had to use a light hand because it’s so intense–which is good. I can easily see the contour shade working well for dark skin divas. Even if you’re a shade or two darker than me.

I also fell in love with the highlighter. It’s a warm peachy gold loaded with very fine golden shimmer that almost has a duochrome effect. The second I swatched it I knew I was going to love it and I practically melted once I tried it on. It’s a soft highlight that delivers a stunning natural glow but can easily be built up to full on golden goddess glow. I loved how easy it was to blend and the way it lit up my face.

Both the contour and highlight lasted for over 8 hours on my dry skin before I noticed some slight fading. The wear time may be a little different if you have oily skin but I can still see the Cream Highlight & Contour Palette getting you through most of the day. Especially if you set them with a powder which I skipped for testing purposes, of course.

When I first spotted the Cream Highlight & Contour Palette I had a feeling it was going to be good and I was definitely right. I’ve been using this baby all week and I just can’t get enough of how great the quality is. If you’re a dark skin diva who’s been struggling to find a good, deep contour or just a gal who doesn’t want to spend an arm and leg to sculpt your face I highly recommend checking out the NYX Cream Highlight & Contour. It’s a steal for $15!

Looking darling, Fancie. =) Love the white jacket on you. I’m glad to hear NYX did a good job for the dark skinned makeup lovers this time! If ABH’s brow pomade didn’t work so perfectly as a contour for me, I’d have to grab this, LOL.

    1. Ooh what shade do you use in the ABH brow pomade to contour?!? What shade are you in foundation? This is intriguing.

      1. I’m with you LOL! I never thought about using Dipbrow to contour. It actually doesn’t sound like a bad idea!

    2. Thanks Z! I don’t know why I’ve never thought to try Dipbrow as a contour. You’ve got me curious now lol. I have to try it!
