NYX Stone High Voltage Lipstick Review

NYX Stone High Voltage Lipstick

I’ll probably never get over my intense addiction to bold lips but I just can’t shake the hold NYX Stone High Voltage Lipstick has over me. It’s the perfect nude on my complexion! I knew it would be something special when I spotted it on the shelf at Ulta but, man, sparks are really flying. This lipstick is life!

Stone is everything I hoped Rihanna’s MAC Nude lipstick would be. It’s a neutral light beige-taupe with a slight grey undertone and creamy satin finish. The color is very unique–not just to my stash but in the makeup world period. We’re just now starting to see companies produce “greige” lipsticks so it’s great to have one that’s affordable and easily accessible.

I have to admit. I was a little nervous to try Stone at first. The slight grey undertone had me worried that it may come off ashy or chalky but it actually looks beautiful against my complexion. Stone is the perfect mix of grey and beige! It’s not too cool and not too warm so it doesn’t clash with my complexion or make me look dull. I can easily skip the lip liner and not look like a zombie with Stone.

And the formula? So amazing! Stone glides across the lips effortlessly providing full coverage with a lightweight, smooth creamy texture that’s lightly hydrating and very comfortable to wear. You’d think such a light lipstick would wreak havoc on my imperfect lips but nope! Stone doesn’t settle into lip lines at all and it doesn’t really emphasize flakes either. The formula is pretty emollient though so I experienced some bleeding and feathering but a primer and lip liner held everything in place nicely.

My only gripe with Stone is that I wish it lasted longer. I get around 3-4 hours of wear before it fades into a light stain–which isn’t bad. Especially considering that it doesn’t make my lips look cracked and dry once its gone. I was just hoping it would last me all day like Burlesque. That shade just doesn’t quit! Either way, I’m still a HUGE fan of Stone and I recommend it to anyone comfortable enough to pull it off. The color is so beautiful and the formula is beyond impressive for a $6 lipstick!

Awwww…I like it! I’m a huge nude lipstick/lip gloss lover and will search to the ends of the earth for the perfect nude lippie. A few weeks ago, I started my hunt again and bought MAC Fresh Brew, Shitaki, Hug Me (was a back 2 MAC), Milani Nude Matte, Re-purchased MAC Freckletone, Spite and Viva Glam V! LOL…I had to stop myself. I also picked up Siss and this looks like it might be a close dupe. Loving your blog!

Thank you! Especially for all of those great lipstick suggestions! I’ve been meaning to get Siss so I’m glad this is similar. I need to Freckletone, Spite and Viva Glam V. The swatches look very pretty!

  2. Whoa this is interesting! I don’t think I can pull off a nude lipstick ever, and most probably not a taupe-y one, but this looks awesome on you!

Thank you, Sunny! I actually think a nude lip would look beautiful on you! I understand how you feel though. I’m the same way with reds lol.

  3. How does this compare to Cashmere? Is it a close dupe?

I don’t own Cashmere. Sorry. Judging from the pics I’ve seen though it looks very similar. Maybe a little less pink
