Black History Month may be over but that doesn’t mean I can’t show my BOMBs some love! Even in 2017, you’d be hard pressed to find brands that cater to women of all skin tones. Especially the luscious chocolate ones. That’s why it’s so important to embrace, celebrate and support the brands that do. And what better what to do that than celebrate the #melaninmagic of brands created by black women themselves? Yaaaaaas, honey!
A lot of people may equate Detroit with crime but there’s so much more to this beautiful city! Its citizens are resilient, hard working and many of them are so creative that it’ll blow your minds. Detroit is quickly becoming a bustling playground art and entrepreneurship of all kinds. Makeup included!
The Lip Bar is a Detroit based makeup brand that specializes in making beautiful funky colored lipsticks. It was founded by Melissa Butler who sprinkled her unique blend of #blackgirlmagic to manifest a successful business that empowers women and makes them feel sexy. After her failed pitch on Shark Tank, Melissa used the harsh criticism to turn the Lip Bar into a powerful black owned makeup brand that is now sold at Target. Talk about an inspiration! You go girl!
Happy Monday, darlings! Project BOMB is still underway and now that we’ve got the lips covered with Iman, we can move on to the eyes with Juvia’s Place. Juvia’s Place is a newer brand that just popped up on the scene a couple of years ago with their vibrant African-themed eyeshadow palettes that are crazy pigmented and out of this world beautiful. For months, I had been eyeing a few of Juvia’s Place eyeshadow palettes because the color schemes are so unique and I’ve seen so many people raving about how awesome their eyeshadows are.
Normally, I’m all about pink on Wednesday but today I want to do something a little different. Today marks the beginning of Black History Month and I thought it would be a fabulous idea to celebrate the beauty of melanin through makeup. It can be hard to find makeup when you’re on the deeper end of the spectrum. Luckily, there’s some amazing melanin beauties out there who have stepped up to create an entire line dedicated to helping women of all shades feel beautiful. Even the darkest of divas!
So I decided to kick off Project BOMB (Black Owned Makeup Brands) to showcase different BOMBs and products that are brown girl friendly and support our local communities. To kick off Project BOMB, I’d like to reintroduce you to the Iman Luxury Moisturizing Lipsticks aka one of the best lipsticks you’ll ever try.
