Project BOMB: Iman Luxury Contour Trio

Project BOMB: Iman Luxury Contour Trio Swatches on Dark Skin

Black History Month may be over but that doesn’t mean I can’t show my BOMBs some love! Even in 2017, you’d be hard pressed to find brands that cater to women of all skin tones. Especially the luscious chocolate ones. That’s why it’s so important to embrace, celebrate and support the brands that do. And what better what to do that than celebrate the #melaninmagic of brands created by black women themselves? Yaaaaaas, honey!

Fancie Faves

Clinique All About Eyes Serum, Laura Geller Lip Strip Smoothing Sugar Scrub, Milani Golden Light Face and Eye Strobe Palette, Juvia's Place Mini Masquerade Eyeshadow Palette, Tarte Tarteist Pro Glow Highlighting and Contour Palette, Fiona Stiles Miramar Invisible Loose Setting Powder

Now that we’ve got all of my January empties out of the way let’s move on to my faves, shall we? The plan was to get my faves and empties up together. But having a jam packed birthday weekend and then a crippling sinus infection the following week really threw me off. Way off. I’m talking mouth breathing for 4 days straight and putting my pants on backwards for an interview off. LOL!

Needless to say, January was a very long month but a lot of good came from it. Like ringing in the New Year and spending my birthday and Valentine’s Day with my amazing boyfriend. And trying a handful of new products that turned out to be the bomb.com. There’s nothing better than love and good makeup, right?

I’m Glowing Crazy Over the Tarte Tarteist Pro Glow Palette!

Tarte Tarteist Pro Glow Palette Swatches on Dark Skin

When Tarte randomly decided to send a handful of beauty bloggers to Bora Bora a lot of us were left scratching our heads in confusion. There was jet skis, drones and highlighted cheeks everywhere. Who knew that trip would bless us with 2 new Tarte palettes right in time for the new year? For quite some time now, Tarte has been inching highlighters into their lineup bit by bit. First, we got a little glimpse of Tarte’s highlighters in the Tarteist Contour PalettesThen, Tarte slipped a little peek into their Color Wheel Blush Palette. Next thing you know, Tarte has a standalone highlighter and a full blown highlighting palette that comes equipped with contour goodies too. Talk about progress!

Ulta Holiday Haul

Butter London Fancy-full Lippy Liquid Lipstick Collection, Stila Stay All Day Sparkle All Night Lipstick Set, Smashbox L.A. Lights Palette, LORAC Mega Pro 3 Palette, Tarte The Kissing Squad Lip Sculptor Quad, Too Faced Grand Care Hotel

There’s a ton of reasons to make all of your beauty purchases at Ulta but the best one is the rewards program. Hands down! Racking up points at Ulta doesn’t just get you deluxe samples or impossibly hard to get mega sets. Shade but no shade. Sorry Sephora. I’ma let you finish but Ulta has the best rewards program around! Instead of getting deluxe samples of goodies you’d essentially receive for free elsewhere Ulta rewards you with dollars off your next purchase. The more points you have the better!

I’ve been spending up a storm over the last few months at Ulta but it’s all paid off because I was able to score almost all of the new limited edition holiday sets and palettes on my list without breaking the bank. I let my points stack up to 2,300 and redeemed them for $133 off. Talk about win! I couldn’t wait to grab a grey bag and fill it up with my top holiday picks so far this year.

Tarte x MakeupShayla Tarteist Contour Palette Review

Tarte x MakeupShayla Tarteist Contour Palette

Everyone has a favorite YouTuber or two and one of mine is MakeupShayla. I don’t always have the time to watch her YouTube tutorials but I often live on her Snapchat when I’m on the go. Whether she’s getting ready for an event, showing us footage for an upcoming tutorial or just hanging on the scene with her friends I hear Beyonce’s Formation play in my head. Baby she slays! MakeupShayla slays everything that she does from her amazing style to her insanely gorgeous makeup looks and I’m obviously not the only one that noticed. Tarte (along with her thousands of subscribers and followers) also picked up on MakeupShayla’s unique brand of black girl magic and decided to collaborate with her to create a deeper version of Tarte’s original Tarteist Contour Palette. And, honey, it slays just as hard as MakeupShayla does!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Cream Kit Review

Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Cream Kit

Highlighting and contouring is well past being a trend now. It’s pretty much a way of life for many makeup junkies. Myself included. Mastering the technique isn’t easy but once you’ve got it down to a science it’s hard not to highlight and contour for the makeup gods every time you do a full face. Is it a lot of work (and blending)? Yes. Is it worth it? Yes! There’s nothing like a chiseled, define beat with cheekbones sharp enough to kill and a hot highlight that balances everything out. That’s why I’ve been addicted to the Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Cream Kit. I’ve been playing around with it for a couple of weeks now and I honestly can’t believe that I went so long without having it in my collection. The Contour Cream Kit makes highlighting and contouring so easy!

ELF Studio Contouring Brush Review

ELF Studio Contouring Brush

Makeup brushes can be a bit expensive but you don’t always have to spend the big bucks to get good quality. I’ve tried my fair share of makeup brushes from high end brands like Chanel and MAC to more affordable options like Coastal Scents and ELF so I’ve learned a thing or two when it comes to shopping for makeup brushes. The biggest lesson I learned is that a higher price tag doesn’t always signify superb quality. Sometimes you’re just paying for the name brand itself. I have a handful of MAC, Chanel and ELF brushes and, believe it or not, there’s times when my ELF brushes out-perform brushes that cost me 3-4 times as much. In fact, I think ELF is one of the best brands to go to for affordable brushes because they’re almost always rather nice quality at a great price.

Ulta Contour Kit Review

Ulta Contour Kit + Striking Matte Lip Cream

When the Anastasia Contour Kits first came out tons of people were all over social media raving about them as if they were the best thing since sliced bread. Eventually, I got sucked into the hype and picked up the powder Contour Kit in Tan to Deep only to discover that it was more of a bronzing palette than a contour kit that wasn’t all that spectacular for the $40 price tag. On the flip side, I’ve heard some really good things about the Ulta Contour Kit from some of my favorite makeup buddies on Instagram so I decided to finally grab it when Ulta was giving out those amazing makeup bags filled with Ulta Beauty Collection goodies as a free gift. Who doesn’t like free gifts and contour kits?

NYX Sculpt & Highlight Face Duo Review

NYX Sculpt & Highlight Face Duo in Chestnut/Sand

When it comes to contouring, it’s almost always a “go hard or go home” kinda approach. Lots of kits and sets come pigment packed and ready to sculpt and highlight your face to the makeup gods with full coverage that takes some serious blending. Which is great if you’re into that super beat, chiseled look that most makeup junkies love. However, if you’re into a more soft, natural contour that’s suitable for everyday wear it’s easy to feel a little left out. Not anymore though!
