I hope you’ve been enjoying your New Year! Here’s to hoping that 2017 is gentler yet still fierce. Because I think we can all agree that 2016 was a little rough around the edges. It wasn’t all bad though! We saw a lot of great releases, collaborations and more in the beauty community last year that blessed us with a lot of great products. I know I’m a little late to the party but there was no way I could truly kiss 2016 goodbye until I shared all of my favorite products with you. It’s only right!
Liquid lipsticks are life. True enough. But I can’t act like juicy, glossy poppin’ lips aren’t the move all year round! Most times, I do like to gravitate towards mattes throughout fall and winter but mattes can be a little drying. And when you’re talking to people nonstop for hours a day matte lips aren’t always ideal. They start to crack, peel and get all dry. Then before you know it, you’re lips are pretty much hanging off your face and you have no idea how bad it is until you pass a mirror. Tragic.
Usually when a new makeup product receives a ton of rave reviews on social media I’m skeptical. I’m either wondering:
“Is it really that great?”
“Who’s paying you to sing these praises, girl? I need the receipts.”
That’s exactly how I was feeling when the new Tarte Double Duty Shape Tape Contour Concealer hit Ulta and literally everyone was deeming it the best concealer in the world. Concealers always crease on me almost immediately so I’ve kinda lost faith in concealers. Well, I did. If you follow me on Snapchat or Twitter, then you’ve probably seen me singing the praises of Tarte’s new Shape Tape Contour Concealer too because it really is the best concealer ever. Really.
Whenever I see double ended makeup I automatically think cheap. Usually double ended makeup (like lippies and brushes) are made with lower quality ingredients or flimsy packaging that doesn’t always feel good or work well. I’m not gonna lie. I cringed when I found out I was going to Tarte’s Double Duty Beauty Collection training for Ulta because I just knew it was going to be a bunch of cheap, gimmicky products that I wasn’t going to like. However, the Double Duty Beauty Collection actually turned out to be a rather solid collection. Leave it to Tarte to tackle double ended makeup and nail it!
The Double Duty Beauty Collection features a few double ended products like eyeliner and shadow, brushes and lipstick and gloss too. I thought I would like The Lip Sculptor Lipstick & Lip Gloss duos the least but they’re actually turning out to be my favorite products in the collection. The Lip Sculptor Lipstick & Gloss features a full coverage lipstick and matching semi-sheer lipgloss in 8 shades. I have 2 of them in my collection and I’m pleased to report that they’re nothing like the cheap lippie duos we’ve seen in the past.
Tarte has really been growing on me since I’ve tried the Tartelette Eyeshadow Palettes and even more so after attending their Double Duty Beauty Collection training for Ulta. Tarte actually has some really great stuff! I’ve always been on the fence to try their products because the color range always seemed better suited for lighter skin tones to me. Especially when it comes to complexion products. I still have to give Tarte the side eye on that because they’re not moving quite fast enough for me when it comes to expanding the line to include darker shades. However, I’ll cut Tarte the slimmest amount of slack because the rest of their color products are rather nice and pretty affordable for a higher end brand.
