Summer is all about bright, bold colors! So it’s no surprise that Juvia’s Place is completely dominating this season with their extremely bold, colorful palettes. Juvia’s Place (an amazing BOMB) specializes in making stunning African-themed palettes designed to pop on chocolate cuties. I first fell in love with the brand when I took a chance on the Mini Masquerade Palette and was completely blown away by the quality. Since then, I’ve added a few more Juvia’s Place palettes to my collection. Including the stunning Saharan Eyeshadow Palette. It’s perfect for summer!
Happy Sunday, makeup lovers! Before I jump right in to some Skincare Sunday goodies, I just have to show you the amazing new, limited edition Urban Decay x Jean-Michael Basquiat Makeup As Art Collection. It’s been a long time since I’ve been excited about an Urban Decay collection. The last Urban Decay collection to catch my eye was the Gwen Stefani Collection. Let’s face it. It was pretty and the packaging was cute but it was ultimately a fail for us dark skin divas.
The Jean-Michael Basquiat Collection is something totally different! The Makeup As Art Collection is bold. It’s vibrant. It’s gritty. It’s surreal. It’s edgy. Basically, the Jean-Michael Basquiat Makeup As Art Collection is everything we’ve grown to know and love about Urban Decay before the incessant Naked craze. Don’t get me wrong. I love a good neutral palette and nude lip as much as any makeup junkie. But every now and then, you’ve got to switch things up and add some color, girl!
Happy hump day beauty lovers! It’s been about 2 weeks since I’ve last checked in with you guys and that’s way too long! I have quite the long (and interesting!) story about the massive changes in my life these days that I’ll be sharing with you very soon. In the meantime, I’ve got a lot of catching up to do with swatches and reviews! Starting with lots and lots of lipstick and eyeshadow. 🙈
Last month, Too Faced released the Natural Love Collection for Summer 2017 and it was just as girly, frilly and cheesy as I thought it’d be. And I’m loving it all! Sorry guys! I’m a huge girly girl so I can’t help but be mildly obsessed with Too Faced as they’re the reigning beauty queens of all things girly. Including the new limited edition blockbuster Natural Love Eyeshadow Palette that’s been turning heads lately.
Happy April! I know I’m a couple days late but the start of a fresh, new month is always a cause to celebrate. Especially when it’s pushing us that much closer to summer. Yaaaaas! Besides sunny skies and fun vibes, I’m pretty pumped about April because there’s a ton of new products and collections rolling out right now and it’s got me bouncing off the walls. You know I’m all about enjoying new makeup!
I actually spent a great deal of March exploring new makeup too. After the dust from the holiday madness finally settled, brands started pumping out stuff left and right and I felt like Ash on a never-ending quest to catch them all. Obviously, I failed, because keeping up with every release is just obsessive. However, I did manage to try a handful of new products that turned out to be so amazing that I’m still reaching for them constantly. Here’s a peek at all the products I loved last month:
When I first started blogging, I was all about drugstore makeup as I was just discovering and exploring the wonderful world of makeup. I soon switched over to the high end side once I felt myself getting the hang of things but I can’t lie. I miss drugstore makeup! There’s a lot of new products and collections rolling out that are mighty tempting. Tempting enough to say skip the high end splurge and get back to saving a couple bucks!
I already know some of you are over there thinking, “How can you go back to drugstore from high end?!” Simple. The quality of drugstore products has gotten way better. I’m talking leaps and bounds. I never in a million years thought I’d be comparing a drugstore eyeshadow palette to my beloved Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette. But the day finally came when I took a leap of faith with the NYX Lid Lingerie Shadow Palette.
Now that we’ve got all of my January empties out of the way let’s move on to my faves, shall we? The plan was to get my faves and empties up together. But having a jam packed birthday weekend and then a crippling sinus infection the following week really threw me off. Way off. I’m talking mouth breathing for 4 days straight and putting my pants on backwards for an interview off. LOL!
Needless to say, January was a very long month but a lot of good came from it. Like ringing in the New Year and spending my birthday and Valentine’s Day with my amazing boyfriend. And trying a handful of new products that turned out to be the bomb.com. There’s nothing better than love and good makeup, right?
Happy New Year! Is it just me or is anyone else glad that the holiday season is finally over? When you work in retail the holiday season feels like a rollercoaster. As Thanksgiving approaches, it’s like you’re slowly chugging up that massive hill preparing for that stomach wrenching drop. Once Thanksgiving finally rears its head, you’re at the top of the hill and it’s starting to drop down at the speed at light. That’s exactly how this past holiday season felt. A long, crazy paced, never-ending rollercoaster. I’m exhausted!
Believe it or not, I’m just now getting a chance to slow down and round up my 2016 faves and my Christmas gifts to share with you. It’s crazy how much I missed you guys! Work has been kicking my butt but one of my goals for the new year is to be more engaged with you and to give you more quality content than you can handle. So the show must go on!
It seems that every year we get hit with a ton of neutral eyeshadow palette releases. From warm to cool, we see the same mix of browns and golds with the occasional blues and greens tossed in too. No matter how enticing all those neutral palettes may be at first I can’t deny that it starts to get old after a while. I’m definitely guilty of buying more palettes than I need but even I like to shake it up sometimes and try something a little different.
That’s why I saw it perfectly fitting to finally go ahead and order the Juvia’s Place Mini Masquerade Palette. Juvia’s Place is a black owned brand that makes some of the most amazing eyeshadow palettes you’ll ever come across. There’s 3 palettes in the collection (so far) and they all contain a mix of neutrals with some fun eye popping colors too like bold pinks and purples. I’ve been eyeing the Masquerade Palette for months now after seeing so many beautiful pics and swatches on social media so I pulled the trigger and ordered the mini version while it was on sale for Black Friday.
There’s a ton of reasons to make all of your beauty purchases at Ulta but the best one is the rewards program. Hands down! Racking up points at Ulta doesn’t just get you deluxe samples or impossibly hard to get mega sets. Shade but no shade. Sorry Sephora. I’ma let you finish but Ulta has the best rewards program around! Instead of getting deluxe samples of goodies you’d essentially receive for free elsewhere Ulta rewards you with dollars off your next purchase. The more points you have the better!
I’ve been spending up a storm over the last few months at Ulta but it’s all paid off because I was able to score almost all of the new limited edition holiday sets and palettes on my list without breaking the bank. I let my points stack up to 2,300 and redeemed them for $133 off. Talk about win! I couldn’t wait to grab a grey bag and fill it up with my top holiday picks so far this year.
Too Faced is killing me with cuteness! I almost want to write a letter to Jerrod and tell him to stop creating cute palettes for at least 6 months so we all can chill out for a second and save our money for once. I don’t know about you but I’m becoming a bit of a Too Faced fiend. The cute packaging sucks me in every time and their buttery, pigmented eyeshadow formula hooks me while the delicious scents put the final nail in the coffin. I already own all 3 of the Chocolate Bar Palettes and the Peanut Butter and Jelly Palette but now I’m curious to see what’s inside Too Faced’s upcoming Peanut Butter and Honey Palette. Because I’m already sure that I’m going to need it. Jerrod Blandino (Too Faced owner) let the cat out of the bag that the Peanut Butter and Honey Palette is coming soon to Ulta for Spring but didn’t give us a peek inside or an actual release date just yet but I have a feeling that it’s going to be beautiful and a huge hit. Here’s to hoping that the Sweet Peach Collection doesn’t break us all so we’ll still have money left for the Peanut Butter and Honey Palette!
