January Empties!

It Cosmetics No. 50 Serum Anti-Aging Collagen Primer, Peter Thomas Roth Un-Wrinkle Turbo Face Serum, Prada Candy Eau de Parfum, Clinique All About Eyes Eye Cream, Bare Minerals Skin Longevity Vital Power Infusion

Let’s take a quick break from Project BOMB, shall we? You’ve probably noticed that I’ve picked up a ton of new goodies in the last few months but what you probably didn’t know is that I’ve also been determined to start using what’s already in my stash more. Whether you’re a beauty blogger or beauty enthusiast, it’s easy to get caught up in the hype of the hottest shiny new product but what really matters is actually using the stuff. No sense in wasting money on things you won’t use, right?

With this logic in mind, I decided to start going hard with a few products that I knew I could finish up with a little consistency and determination. In just a few months, I managed to finish up a handful of beauty products. Woo hoo! Most of it was skincare, of course, but I’m still pretty impressed that I was able to stick with these products for so long. Here’s a rundown of my January empties:

Fancie Faves

LORAC Mega Pro 3 Palette, Tarte Color Wheel Amazonian Clay Blush Palette, Tarte Rogue The Lip Sculptor Lipstick and Gloss, Becca Backlight Priming Filter, Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Oil, Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water, MAC Copper Face Compact

No matter how much new makeup I buy I always find myself reaching for some of the same products over and over again. Of course, I like to switch a few things up from time to time but when it comes to certain products I like to just stick to what works. Especially when I’ve got a busy schedule ahead of me. That’s why I ended up keeping the same handful of products in rotation last month. Nothing’s better than a quick everyday beat with your faves!

Hello, Again Smashbox!

Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer, Smashbox Studio Skin Foundation 4.2, Smashbox Color Correcting Stick Dark

There are a lot of brands out there that don’t always get the love and recognition they deserve and Smashbox is certainly one of them. After discovering the magic of Smashbox recently, I decided to start paying a little more attention to the brand and trying out more products. If their blush and eyeshadow is good stuff then there has to be other hidden gems too, right? Right! Smashbox is actually a solid brand all around in terms of both color and complexion. But what Smashbox really excels in is complexion. For years, Smashbox has received the most love for their extensive collection of primer for all skin types and concerns. However, Smashbox isn’t all primer. They’ve got some other great complexion goodies too!

5 Brightening Primers for Glowing Summer Skin!

Urban Decay Brightening & Tightening Complexion Primer Potion, Laura Geller Spackle Tinted Under Make-Up Primer, Urban Decay Naked Skin Bronzing Beauty Balm, Tarte Clean Slate Flawless Brightening Primer, NYX Honey Dew Me Up Primer Serum

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it a million more times. Summer is all about that glow, baby! A dewy, radiant complexion is a must have for summer because it makes skin look healthy and soft versus a matte finish that can sometimes look dry, cakey and mask-like. No bueno! I know everyone doesn’t like to go quite as highlighter crazy as I do (I pile that ish on!) and that’s okay. There’s other ways to get your glow on in a more natural, subtle way. Like by adding a brightening primer to your routine to give you an all over radiant glow that backlights your makeup and adds a luminous touch to your complexion. To make your life easier, I’ve rounded up my 5 favorite brightening primers to help you glow all summer long without overdoing it. Let’s get started!

5 Hydrating Primers for Dry Skin

5 Primers for Dry Skin

Tired of your foundation and concealer emphasizing your dry skin? Me too, girl! I’ve tried a ton of different foundations and concealers throughout the years and I’ve discovered that it’s not always the formula that needs a change. Sometimes it’s our approach, skin and technique that needs a little tweaking. Foundation and concealer has a tendency to emphasize dry skin putting the spotlight on flaky patches and fine lines rather than creating that smooth, flawless finish we crave. Now, there’s plenty of moisturizing foundations and concealers out there but if you’re anything like me you’ll quickly learn that they’re not without flaws either. Some moisturizing formulas tend to settle into fine lines and wrinkles as well as fade quickly, look greasy or just feel too rich–especially in the summer. That’s why I like to focus on correcting my dry skin with a solid skincare routine (which I’ll soon share!) and a good hydrating formula to ensure that my makeup applies and wears beautifully all day.

Milani Prime Perfection Hydrating + Pore Minimizing Face Primer Review

Milani Prime Perfection Hydrating + Pore Minimizing Face Primer

Finding a good foundation and concealer is important if you like a flawlessly beat face but so is finding a solid primer. Since I’ve been working in the beauty industry, I’ve learned that most women don’t understand the importance of using primer. From Bobbi Brown to Ulta, I hear a lot of complaints like, “My foundation just doesn’t last throughout the day without sliding off.” Or, “My skin is so dry that every foundation looks cakey and emphasizes my dryness.” Either way, my response is almost always, “Are you using a primer?” About 95% of the time the answer is no and to me that’s insane. Primer is super important guys!

A good primer not only helps to lock your foundation in place but it also helps address certain skin concerns like controlling oil, smoothing out flaky, dry skin and more. I used to think that primer wasn’t necessary when I first started wearing makeup but now I can’t live without it. I’ve sorta become a primer junkie because I’m addicted to the way they lend such a huge helping hand in applying my foundation and making it look flawless all day.

Spring is finally starting to rear its pretty little head so you know what that means. It’s time to glow! I actually love to glow all year round but sunny skies and warm weather really brings out my inner bronze goddess and makes me want to glow like no tomorrow with the sun bouncing off my skin making it sparkle and shine like gold. My favorite way to glow is usually with a solid highlighter but I recently discovered Laura Geller’s Bronze Spackle Tinted Under Make-Up Primer and now I’m hooked on illuminating primers to make my skin glow like crazy. Goodbye February and hello March! I’m so ready to shake these winter blues and jump head first into spring. Especially after all of the new spring releases and collections that have been popping up at Ulta lately. They make me super anxious! And also make me super broke LOL! I ended up buying a ton of new products last month from nail polish to tons of makeup because February was such an exciting month at Ulta. On the bright side, though, I ended up loving pretty much everything I bought so I’d say February was a pretty great month for me.

Urban Decay Brightening & Tightening Complexion Primer Potion Review

Urban Decay Brightening & Tightening Complexion Primer Potion

Ahh, primer. I remember when I used to think that primer was completely unnecessary but now I can’t live without it. Whether you’re dry or oily, primer is an absolute must because it helps your makeup glide on like butter, last longer and just generally look better. There’s a lot of great primers out there but my current fave is theUrban Decay Brightening & Tightening Complexion Primer Potion.
