Now that we’ve got all of my January empties out of the way let’s move on to my faves, shall we? The plan was to get my faves and empties up together. But having a jam packed birthday weekend and then a crippling sinus infection the following week really threw me off. Way off. I’m talking mouth breathing for 4 days straight and putting my pants on backwards for an interview off. LOL!

Needless to say, January was a very long month but a lot of good came from it. Like ringing in the New Year and spending my birthday and Valentine’s Day with my amazing boyfriend. And trying a handful of new products that turned out to be the bomb.com. There’s nothing better than love and good makeup, right?

Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Pressed Finishing Powder Review

Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Pressed Finishing Powder in Naked Dark

There’s some things in life that go hand in hand. Like peanut butter and jelly. Or foundation, concealer and powder. You can’t have one without the other. Especially when it comes to foundation, concealer and powder. Even if you have dry skin you need a little powder to get you through a long day without your makeup fading, creasing or sliding off before you can even make it home. When I first started wearing makeup, I was not the biggest fan of powder because it always seemed to accentuate my dry skin and make my fine lines look even worse. Now, I’m starting to love a little powder here and there because it makes a huge difference in the way my makeup looks and wears throughout the day. The key is finding the best formula that works for your skin.

If I had to sum up April in one word it would probably be: haul. I hauled a lot of new stuff last month. Between Ulta’s 21 Days of Beauty and all of the spring and summer collections seemingly dropping at once I just couldn’t help myself. April definitely ate up a lot of my coins! On the bright side, I got to try a lot of different new products that I ended up loving and getting a lot of use from. In fact, I discovered a few products that I don’t think I’ll ever be able to live without again. So I’d say April was quite a success! Here’s a rundown on all of my favorite products last month:

When you have dry skin and fine lines setting powder is probably one of your least favorite products. For people with normal to oily skin, setting powder is this miracle product that refines foundation and concealer for an airbrushed look that’s smooth, shine-free and flawless. For dry skin, setting powder just makes skin look more dry and even cakey as it accentuates texture and fine lines. Pretty much everything you’re trying to hide. I’ve had my fair share of struggling with both dry skin and fine lines and it’s no fun–especially when setting powders are involved.

I’ve gotten a handle on my dry skin quite some time ago but I’m still struggling to diminish my fine lines which causes some annoying creasing issues under my eyes with every concealer I’ve ever tried. The key to keeping concealer from creasing is setting powder but for years I’ve struggled to find just the right one to alleviate creasing without making my dry under eyes look even more dry or cakey. At first, the best I’ve found was the NARS Loose Light Reflecting Setting Powder which works well but can start to look dry if my brush or sponge picks up too much product. Thanks to Ulta’s 21 Days of Beauty, though, I was tempted to try It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Silk HD Anti-Aging Micro-Powder and I think it’s the best thing since sliced bread.

Bobbi Brown Golden Orange Sheer Finish Pressed Powder Review

Highlighting and contouring is my jam so I’m always open to trying new products that I think will up my game. Contouring wasn’t really something we did at Bobbi Brown so I ended up coming up with a lot of creative highlighting ideas. Like using her Golden Orange Sheer Finish Pressed Powder to set my concealer and kick up my highlight a notch.

If you took a look at my stash, you’d probably think I was a straight up makeup junkie who buys everything. And that’s maybe a little bit true. Yes a little bit. ‘Cause, believe it or not, there’s some makeup out there that I straight up avoid. One of them is translucent powders. I’ve been ducking and dodging those bad boys for years but NARS has finally got me with his Light Reflecting Loose Setting Powder.

Oh how I love Sephora! They’re always giving away awesome samples! In my first holiday haul, I not only snagged an awesome Givency perfume sample but a nice bag filled with some pretty awesome samples. Before I delve into the great samples inside I have to rave about the bag they came in. I didn’t think twice about the actual bag when I tossed it in my order. I was only concerned with how much I was going to like the samples but the bag is pretty impressive itself! It’s a pretty nice size and includes a zipper and a snap closure. Not only would it be great to carry my makeup on the go but my brushes as well!
