Maybelline Hibiscus Haven Color Elixir Review

Matte lips have been dominating my stash since fall but now that we’re getting closer to spring I’m dying for some lighter textures and brighter colors! I haven’t been much of a gloss girl lately but the Maybelline Color Elixir glosses are really rocking my world! Hibiscus Haven was the first shade I tried and less than a week later I already own 3 more. That’s how good this formula is!

The Maybelline Color Elixirs come in a clear plastic tube with a silver top. It’s slightly bulky but overall I find the packaging pretty sleek. It isn’t heavy or cheap feeling like some drugstore lippies. I’m not the biggest fan of Maybelline’s scents but the Color Elixir glosses are much better. They have a light sweet yet powdery floral scent that wears away fairly quickly. The taste is a little perfumey though so I’d be careful with application!

Hibiscus Haven is a light blue based bubblegum pink shade that reminds me a lot of MAC Snapdragon lipstick. It’s a very springy pink that I think would work well on a variety of skin tones. The texture is simply amazing! It’s like a cross between MAC lip glass and cremesheen glass formulas. It’s moisturizing and isn’t sticky or tacky (like cremesheens) but it is a bit thicker and more long wearing (like a lip glass). I get around 3-4 hours of wear before Hibiscus Haven starts to fade. Once the gloss has completely worn away, I’m left with soft lips and a nice pink stain.

Similar to Snapdragon, Hibiscus Haven isn’t fully opaque. It’s pretty pigmented but it does let some of your natural lip color shine through. You can build it for more intensity but do be careful not to over apply because it’s one of those glosses that leaves lines when you smoosh it around. It is a bit milky and does settle into lip lines but I don’t find it too troublesome since it’s not super noticeable. Or icky looking. I think the thicker texture keeps it from feathering too deep. Even without exfoliating Hibiscus Haven didn’t make my lips look flaky or crazy. It’s just a really lovely gloss! I can’t really think of one bad thing to say about it. I highly recommend Hibiscus Haven! You can find Hibiscus Haven and the rest of the Maybelline Color Elixir gang at your local drugstore for $9.
