Maybelline Orchid Ecstasy Rebel Bloom Lipstick Review

Now this is a lipstick launch I can get behind! Creamy, easy to wear pastels? Yes, please! The Maybelline Color Sensational Rebel Bloom lipsticks have just landed in stores but I predict that they’re going to be a huge hit this spring. The colors are beautiful and the formula is quite promising, too!

Orchid Ecstasy is the first shade I’ve tried from the Rebel Bloom line and if it’s any indication of what’s to come I’m going to need them all! It’s a vibrant violet with a slight pinky undertone and a soft, glossy sheen. Upon first glance, it reminds me a lot of the MAC Heavenly Hybrid lustre lipstick from the Fantasy of Flowers collection. Orchid Ecstasy is a tiny bit lighter and more pink but it’s a very close dupe!

Not only are the colors very close but the formulas are very similar too. The Rebel Bloom formula have a lightweight, creamy texture that applies smoothly and evenly with semi-opaque coverage. Orchid Ecstasy applies mostly sheer on the first swipe (like Heavenly Hybrid) but after a few swipes I’m able to achieve a full coverage finish that doesn’t look cakey or thick.

Despite the sheer, lightweight formula Orchid Ecstasy performs quite well. The formula hugs the lips without emphasizing flakes, settling into lip lines, bleeding or feathering. It’s also quite moisturizing and comfortable to wear. I get around 4-5 hours of wear (even with some heavy eating) before Orchid Ecstasy begins to fade into an intense stain that lasts all day. Honestly, I love this lipstick! The color is pure perfection and the formula is a dream for my dry lips. I totally recommend it!
