Milani Matte Diva Color Statement Matte Lipstick Review

Don’t you hate when you love a lipstick but it doesn’t exactly love you back? Okay, that sounds kinda weird but you know what I mean! You fall in love with the color. Vow to never live without it. But then you try it on and it looks so bad. The agony!

That’s how I feel about the Milani Matte Diva lipstick. I just LOVE the cool, bright hot pink color. I mean it seriously pops on my skin. Almost neon like. So amazing! But the formula just doesn’t sit well on my lips at all.

Matte Diva applies smoothly and mostly evenly with a creamy, lightweight texture and full coverage in a single swipe. The formula is comfortable to wear but the finish was incredibly unforgiving on my lips. Matte Diva clung to every flake and settled into every nook and cranny of my lips upon application. And it only seemed to get worse as it wore on. After 3-4 hours, I was left with an incredibly patchy, dry looking stain that’s quite unsightly.

I usually have to prep my lips (exfoliate and moisturize) before wearing matte lipsticks but I feel like I had to throw the kitchen sink at Matte Diva to make it work. I’m talking lip liner AND gloss. Both were absolutely necessary to make sure I wasn’t out in public looking like my lips were falling off.

I wouldn’t necessarily consider Matte Diva a bad lipstick, though. It’s still very pigmented and comfortable to wear. Plus, people really seem to love it too. It’s just not for me. And if your lips are anything like mine (dry + lots of fine lines) it may not be for you either.
