Jordana Matte Frappucino & Matte It Girl Modern Matte Lipstick Review

Jordana Matte Frappuccino and Matte It Girl Modern Matte Lipstick

You know what I love? Trying on new lipsticks. It just gives me such a rush! Last week, I finally got a chance to start playing in my Jordana Modern Matte Lipsticks and I think I’m gonna like them. Granted, the formula could be a teeny bit better but it’s not too shabby for a $3 matte lipstick.

The first two shades that I tried were:

  • Matte Frappuccino a warm coppery brown
  • Matte It Girl a bright magenta-pink

Matte It Girl seemed a little dupable at first but I actually had a bit of trouble finding something close in my stash–besides MAC Flat Out Fabulous which is slightly more purple. Matte Frappuccino, on the other hand, is rather unique. I don’t own too many brown lipsticks and I don’t typically see this kind of shade. Especially in the drugstore aisles.

Both lipsticks have a sweet vanilla scent and creamy, slightly thick texture that isn’t drying and doesn’t feel heavy on the lips at all. In a sense, Matte Frappuccino and Matte It Girl turned out to be exactly what Jordana claims–pigmented, comfortable to wear and sports a crack and feather free matte finish. The problem with these two (and probably the rest of the gang) is that they have a tendency to drag across the lips.

Remember when I said they were similar to the MAC Retro Matte formula? They kinda are. Matte Frappuccino and Matte It Girl don’t have an ultra matte finish (there’s a very slight sheen) but you definitely have to put a little pressure on the tube to get it to glide across the lips. Which is weird because neither shades felt stiff or dry. There doesn’t seem to be a top waxy layer or anything either as I’ve applied both shades a few times and they still seem to drag. It’s not a dramatic kind of drag but it’s certainly noticeable.

Minus the slight dragging, the Jordana Modern Matte Lipsticks seem promising. I still exfoliate   prior to wearing them since they’re matte but they definitely aren’t your run of the mill dry out your lips and show every crack and crevice kind of matte. I like them! If you don’t mind a little tugging, I recommend heading to Walgreens to snag Matte Frappuccino and Matte It Girl. Both shades wear for around 4-6 hours and leave behind some pretty decent stains, too!

Glad these are working out for you. I got 2 of these and they drag like crazy across the lips (even after I scraped off the top layer) and look kind of chalky and flat on. I think there’s a quality control issue because some people are raving about them, and others are running into problems like me.

Sorry I’m so late. Somehow this got pushed into my spam folder lol. There’s definitely a quality control issue! I noticed it even just searching them. Some were much more creamy and swatched smoothly while some of them noticeably dragged. So far, I’ve only tried these 2 and while they do drag, they actually wear pretty well. I just hope they do a better job with quality control on the next batch because I’ve read a few reviews like yours
