NYX Maison Matte Lipstick Review
Do you love nude lips but hate the pale, chalky look? Me too, girl. Me too. When I first started wearing makeup I rocked nothing but bold pinks because I was almost afraid of nudes. My biggest fear when it comes to nude lipsticks is walking around thinking I’m hot stuff but I really look like Tyrone Biggums in reality. That ain’t cute! * Tamar Braxton voice *
In 2015, the culture of nude lips completely changed when the beauty industry was taken by storm with funky greiges, deep browns and neutral taupes that were nothing like the pale, chalky nudes brands used to push. However, there’s always that one brand that’s ahead of the curve and when it comes to non-traditional nudes it would be NYX.
NYX whipped up the Maison Matte Lipstick years ago but it just recently became a hit in my stash when I finally discovered it in stock at Ulta. Maison is a deep mauve-brown with a grey undertone and creamy matte finish. Maison is a flattering nude lipstick that just about anyone can pull off. All you need is confidence!
Maison glides on smoothly and evenly with a creamy, lightweight texture that lightly clings to the lips without emphasizing imperfections. Since it’s such a deep nude I don’t struggle with the color settling into my lip lines or putting my flakes on blast so it’s a fuss free nude that I find myself reaching for a lot since it requires no mirror or lip liner for a perfect application.
Despite the matte finish, Maison is quite creamy so it doesn’t feel drying at all. Not even as it begins to wear off after 4-5 hours. After trying Maison, it started to make a lot of sense to me why it’s almost always sold out at Ulta. It’s a beautiful nude that’s incredibly easy to wear yet still edgy enough to make a statement. Maison isn’t your traditional, boring nude lipstick so it won’t be for everyone. But if you dig deeper nudes I highly recommend hunting for it at your local Ulta or NYX.
