NYX Embellishment Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipstick Review
Drugstore launches are always a pain in my behind and the NYX Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipstick launch was no different. I probably hit 6 different stores when word got out that they were finally available at CVS only to come up empty handed each time. After the Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipsticks launched at Ulta, I breathed a sigh of relief and thought to myself, “These damn lipsticks better be worth it!”
Spoiler alert: They’re not too shabby. The NYX Lip Lingerie Lipsticks are sultry, edgy nudes that are rather unique for a drugstore brand to whip up. It kinda makes sense now why they’re so popular and keep selling out so quickly at Ulta. The Lip Lingerie Liquid Lipsticks are some pretty hot nudes!
When I finally saw them available at Ulta, Embellishment was the first shade I made a mad dash for. It’s one of the most unique shades in the line and in my collection so I had to have it. Embellishment is a deep mauve with a grey undertone that’s down right sexy on everyone. From light to dark skin, Embellishment just looks hot and meshes well with any eye look. You can go natural or smokey and Embellishment is going to balance it in style with its purple-y hue and ultra matte finish that just doesn’t quit.
Embellishment is straight up bangin’ when it comes to the color but the formula could use a bit of work. Embellishment applies well with a lightweight creamy texture that goes on evenly with full coverage and dries rather quickly. It only takes a minute or so to full dry and set to an almost budge-proof flat matte finish. However, the formula is quite drying. Even if I prep with a thick, creamy balm, Embellishment still manages to feel dry within the first hour of wear. It’s not unbearably uncomfortable formula but it’s definitely not the easiest liquid lipstick to wear.
However, it’s definitely not the worst. Despite being drying, Embellishment doesn’t emphasize the texture of my lips anymore than my favorite liquid lipsticks and doesn’t seem to peel off or flake throughout the day. Embellishment wears rather well for around 6-7 hours before it starts to fade. I think NYX could have made the Lip Lingerie formula a little more creamy and less drying but I find that when it comes to longevity and drying time it’s the best liquid lipstick formula they’ve come up with. Embellishment applies and wears like a true liquid lipstick which I like. I just wish it wasn’t so drying because Embellishment is easily my most favorite nude when it comes to the color. If you have insanely dry lips that just can’t hang with liquid lipsticks then Embellishment is an easy skip but if you don’t mind a little extra balm (and water) in your life then I say it’s worth a shot.
