Ipsy Gen Beauty NY Swag Bag & Haul Part One
For the past week, I’ve been working on sharing my experience and goodies from Ipsy’s Generation Beauty New York but I’ve been so tired! Not just because I spent hours walking around mingling with other beauty bloggers and waiting in line to meet amazing brand reps. It’s mostly because I spent the majority of my weekend exploring New York (on foot ?) and partying with my best friends who are avid members of #teamnosleep on vacation. In between mixing and mingling at Gen Beauty, I was up until around 5 a.m. (or later) soaking in the city and partying with my favorite girls in the world. I had a blast! However, I’m still incredibly tired an entire week later. I could absolutely go for some hibernation right now. LOL!
After 2 super long nights of partying in the city that never sleeps, my skin was left feeling a little dehydrated and ready to start breaking out. If you follow me on Snapchat, you probably heard me mention packing my makeup wipes because I’d be too tipsy and too tired to remove my makeup. I was right. By the time we got back to the hotel, the most I could do was swipe a Neutrogena makeup remover wipe across my face and pass out. There was no Clinique Sonic Brush, night cream or serum for me all weekend. I won’t say that my skin is dying but I’m starting to notice some breakouts which means it’s time to show my skin a little TLC.
I received a few skincare goodies that I’ll be putting to the test very soon including:
- Laneige Water Bank Soothing Gel Mask
- Skinfix Foaming Oil Cleanser (deluxe size)
- H2O Oasis Hydrating Treatment (deluxe size)
These were all free goodies that turned out to be great picks for me as I have dry skin that could use a little extra moisture. Especially after all of the late night partying, drinking, junk food, lack of sleep and pollution I’ve endured all weekend long in New York. My skin could use a nice moisture boost!
I was expecting a lot of makeup (and skincare) brands at Gen Beauty New York but it seems that there was so much more to explore this time around than in LA. There were some familiar brands like Milani and Ardell and Too Faced but there were also some new brands that I don’t recall seeing like PUR Cosmetics and Benefits. The brand representatives at each booth was fairly nice but I have to say I was the most impressed with the friendly faces at Too Faced. The line was massive because their freebie was AMAZING (I’ll show you soon!) but all of the artists and brand reps were incredibly nice, helpful and super informative. Of all the booths I visited at Gen Beauty NY, I had the most fun and felt the most at home at Too Faced.
That isn’t to say that I didn’t have a blast visiting other brands too! Along with some nice skincare goodies, I also received:
- Ardell 110 Studio Effects Lashes & new Adore Olivia Lashes
- Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara (deluxe size)
- PUR Cosmetics Big Look Mascara & Volume Vixen Mascara (deluxe size)
- Benefit Roller Lash Mascara (deluxe size)
- Milani Stay Put Matte Liquid Liner in Midnight Blue (full size)
I love playing up my eyes so I was super excited to see that I had a nice variety of mascaras to choose from after Day One of Gen Beauty NY. I could always use another Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara because it’s one of my faves but I also love that I get a chance to try a couple mascaras from PUR Cosmetics and Benefit. Plus, I get to stay true to my heart with Ardell’s falsies which I swear by. The 110 lashes have been my favorite everyday style for years so I love that I get a chance to try a more dramatic version that I haven’t yet seen in stores. It’s also a nice surprise to get a pair of their new flared Adore Lashes in Olivia that seem to be brand spankin’ new. Nice! Of course, Milani takes the cake this round offering a full sized Stay Put Matte Liquid Liner in such a fun beautiful blue that will help light up my eyes all fall and winter long. I don’t normally do graphic liner looks with different colors but I’m looking forward to creating a double wing or topping this on my black liners for a sick blue cat eye.
Eye makeup is always a plus but lipstick is a serious favorite of mine and the first day of Gen Beauty NY came through some really nice lip goodies including:
- NYX Ombre Lip Duo in Hearts & Spades (full size)
- Ofra Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Pasadena (full size)
- Absolute NY Velvet Lippie in Razzle (full size)
- It Cosmetics Your Lips But Better Waterproof Lip Liner Stain in Blushing Nude (deluxe size)
- Milani Amore Matte Lip Creme in Loved (full size)
I’m a huge fan of Milani and NYX lippies but I haven’t tried any lippies from It Cosmetics, Ofra or Absolute NY just yet. I do feel a little bad because I’m still holding on to an Ofra Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick from the last Gen Beauty but I can’t help but get excited about trying another. As you can see, you receive so many great goodies at Gen Beauty that it can be hard to immediately touch everything. I’m getting through it though! I’m already tossing the Ofra Pasadena Liquid Lipstick and Absolute NY Razzle Velvet Lippie into my makeup bag for this week. I can’t wait to tell you what I think about them!
The first day of Ipsy’s Gen Beauty NY also featured some nice face makeup goodies including:
- It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Pressed Powder (deluxe size)
- Cover FX Customizable Click Stick (full size)
- Bare Minerals Prime Time Original Face Primer (full size)
- Estee Edit Pore Vanishing Stick (full size)
- Tarte The Sculptor Contouring Face Slenderizer (full size)
I’m a huge fan of the It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores loose powder so I’m super happy to have a mini pressed version to pop in my purse/makeup bag to set my makeup on the go. I was also bouncing off the wall to receive the Bare Minerals Original Prime Time Foundation Primer because I play with it all the time at work and I love how smooth and silky it feels on my skin. It was also a nice surprise to receive the Estee Edit Pore Vanishing Stick because I’ve been eyeing her new products for some time now. Estee Lauder has really been revamping their image lately and I think it’s working with the new Estee Edit line. Everything just seems to hip and fresh.
I was a little skeptical about receiving the Tarte The Sculptor Contouring Face Slenderizer stick though because it doesn’t seem all that dark but I think it may work as a nice bronzer or very subtle contour for me. I won’t count it out until I try it though because you never know. It may end up being a hit when paired with my Tarte x MakeupShayla Tarteist Contour Palette.
Gen Beauty NY came with lots of free goodies but I also purchased a couple on my own since there were some pretty nice discounts. The Cover FX Customizable Click Stick wasn’t a free perk but I was able to get an amazing deal scoring my own for just $25. The sticks are $18 a pop and the stick is another $8 so I saved almost $20 buying them as a bundle at Gen Beauty. You may be thinking to yourself, “What the heck is a Click Stick?”
I know I was when the Cover FX rep brought it to my attention. My sleep deprived mind wasn’t quite grasping the concept when she first mentioned it so I ended up responding, “A click whaaa??!” LOL! Turns out, the Cover FX Click Stick is a wonderful new makeup marvel that’s completely customizable. You can choose either 2 Correcting Sticks (color correctors) or mix it up with an Enhance Stick (highlighter) to help you perfect your complexion and amp up your glow with ease. I ended up choosing the Orange Correct Stick to help brighten and neutralize the darkness around my mouth and the Candlelight Enhance Stick to add a deep bronze glow to my cheeks. Both sticks are super creamy, nicely pigmented and easy to apply and blend. I really like them so far!
You can’t have makeup without tools right? Ipsy truly understands us beauty junkie so they tossed in some nice makeup brushes and tools to play with too. My goodie bag included:
- An exclusive Gen Beauty Set of Royal & Langnickel Moda Makeup Brushes
- Crown Brush Brow Blade
- Crown Brush Eyeshadow Blending Brush
- Crown Brush Fan Brush
- Crown Brush Angled Eyeliner Brush
- Luxie Blending Brush
I ended up scoring the Crown Eyeshadow Blending Brush and Fan Brush for under $10 but the rest were freebies. I’ve never tried any Crown Brushes before but I was pleased with how soft and affordable they were so I thought, “Why not?” Luxie is a totally new brand to me but I’m super excited to try them because their brushes also feel like amazing quality. They’re so soft! I’ve heard a lot of great things about Royal & Langnickel brushes but I’ve never had a chance to try them yet so I’m also looking forward to cracking open these Moda Brushes and putting them to the test. I hope I like them!
