Happy April! I know I’m a couple days late but the start of a fresh, new month is always a cause to celebrate. Especially when it’s pushing us that much closer to summer. Yaaaaas! Besides sunny skies and fun vibes, I’m pretty pumped about April because there’s a ton of new products and collections rolling out right now and it’s got me bouncing off the walls. You know I’m all about enjoying new makeup!
I actually spent a great deal of March exploring new makeup too. After the dust from the holiday madness finally settled, brands started pumping out stuff left and right and I felt like Ash on a never-ending quest to catch them all. Obviously, I failed, because keeping up with every release is just obsessive. However, I did manage to try a handful of new products that turned out to be so amazing that I’m still reaching for them constantly. Here’s a peek at all the products I loved last month:
NYX Total Control Drop Foundation in 19 Mocha ($13.99)
Lately, I’ve been all about high end foundation but the new NYX Total Control Drop Foundation is quickly becoming my go to foundation when I’m in a pinch. Whether I’m going for a soft, natural look with light coverage or total glam diva with full coverage, the NYX Total Control Drop Foundation gets the job done and looks flawless from start to finish. I found myself reaching for the NYX Total Control Drop Foundation a ton last month because it was so easy to apply. I would mix a few drops with my primer and illuminator, apply with my hands and be done with my foundation in less than 2 minutes. I can’t tell you how much time it’s saved me in the mornings or how many compliments I get on my skin when I wear it. I highly recommend the NYX Total Control Drop Foundation!
Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum ($22.00)
The weather may be warming up but my skin could still use a little extra moisture and a good glow so I started back using the ultra rich and hydrating Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum. It’s a little thick but I love how it nourishes my dry skin and how it plumps up my fine lines so my foundation and concealer aren’t settling into them before I’ve left the house. I’ve found the Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum to be a great match for the NYX Total Control Drop Foundation because it helped it to absorb into my skin a bit for an ultra natural skin-like finish. It breaks my heart that I’ll have to soon retire the Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum soon as the weather gets warmer but I’ll definitely be holding on to it in my routine for as long as possible.
Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Primer ($32.00)
For the days the Hourglass primer felt a little too rich, I whipped out my trusty Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Primer to offer lightweight moisture and a stunning all over radiant glow. The Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Primer has been one of my go to primers for years because it really does rescue skin the second you apply it. My skin instantly looks brighter, more refreshed, plump and just all around more happy. So, of course, my makeup looks great every time I wear it. Plus it makes my face smell like coconuts and that’s such a fun bonus!
Algenist Hydrating Setting Mist ($35.00)
A hydrating setting spray with a serum infused? Yaaaas! Thanks to my dry skin, I’m a hardcore facial spray junkie so of course I was intrigued by the new Algenist Hydrating Setting Mist. I decided to take a leap of faith and try it one day and I was completely blown away with how hydrating it was. The Algenist Hydrating Setting Mist feels like a featherweight silk veil on the skin. It has an extremely fine, velvety mist that absorbs quickly leaving the skin looking hydrated, refreshed and luminous. I love this stuff so much I spritz it on even when I’m not wearing makeup. It’s so good!
Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Topaz ($41.00)
You know a girl loves to glow! Especially in the spring and summer. That’s why I’ve been going in hard with my Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Topaz these days. Sometimes, I like to pat a little on my cheekbones and down the bridge of my nose as a base for a killer strobe glow. But, most days, I just like to mix a squirt (or two) into my foundation to give me a subtle all over bronze glow that really makes my chocolate complexion pop. I love using the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Topaz with my foundation because it always blends perfectly with my favorite liquid foundations to give them a radiance boost. It’s also a major key for keeping my dry skin radiant under my favorite powder foundations.
NYX Lid Lingerie Shadow Palette ($9.99)
Again, NYX is giving me life! The new Lid Lingerie Shadow Palette is surprisingly good! I didn’t necessarily expect the NYX Lid Lingerie Shadow Palette to be bad, per se. However, I definitely wasn’t expecting an all matte drugstore palette to rival some of my favorite high end shadows. The NYX Lid Lingerie Shadow Palette is super pigmented, easy to blend and manages to hold its own without a primer. With a primer? This palette can’t be stopped! If you’ve been dying to get that warm neutral look on a budget the NYX Lid Lingerie Shadow Palette is your guy!
Tarte Tarteist Contour Palette Volume III ($45.00)
Just when I thought Tarte had outdone themselves with the Tarteist x MakeupShayla Contour Palette they turned around and dropped this bomb on me. The new Tarteist Contour Palette Volume III is freakin’ amazing for brown skin beauties! MakeupShayla definitely did her thing with her palette but the latest version is a bit more brown girl friendly considering it adds 2 bronzers that actually add warmth and act as a great buffer for transitioning your blush into your contour. I also love that Tarte added a slightly warmer matte contour shade that I feel suits my super warm undertones a little better than the cooler ones in the MakeupShayla version. I think every dark skin diva should swatch the new Tarteist Contour Palette Volume III to see just how beautiful it is!
