Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Foundation Review

The entire world stopped when Rihanna released Fenty Beauty. We were all shook when she dropped an impressive 40 shades of Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Long Wear Foundation. Someone heard our cries! I rushed out to get my hands on the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Long Wear Foundation to give it a whirl. And support my girl Riri, of course.

I’m glad I gave it a shot! I’m quite a fan of the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Long Wear Foundation. It’s a lightweight yet still creamy formula with buildable medium coverage and a soft matte finish (as the name implies) that looks like skin. The Pro Filt’r Foundation can be applied a variety of ways including with your fingers, Fenty Beauty’s Precision Makeup Sponge or Full Bodied Foundation Brush. Or whatever brush or sponge you choose. My ELF Powder Brush and Real Techniques Sponge also work just fine.

The real trick is finding your right shade. And then blending really quickly! The Pro Filt’r Foundation does get darker once it sets. So you’ll definitely want to get matched! Initially, I thought my shade was 450. However, I noticed a few minutes later that it was considerably darker than how it looked in the bottle. I ended up scaling back to the shade 420. 420 is described as neutral but it’s more of a warm caramel bronze with a slight red undertone. It’s a really nice match for me!

Application

Remember when I said work fast? Working in sections is your best bet for a flawless application. The Pro Filt’r Foundation dries and sets pretty quickly. You’ll end up with a streaky or uneven finish if you apply this all over without blending quickly. That aside, the Pro Filt’r Foundation is rather easy to apply. It even layers well. Which is a major key if you’re aiming for full coverage. You can easily build coverage where you need it thanks to the quick dry down.

Coverage

The Pro Filt’r Foundation was designed to offer medium to full coverage while diffusing pores and minimizing shine. All claims I found to be true. One pump will provide you with light to medium coverage. Two pumps or more will yield a more full coverage look. I prefer light to medium coverage on a regular basis so the formula works well for me. However, you may end up disappointed if you’re looking for full coverage out the gate.

Finish

I have dry skin so matte foundations typically make me look casket ready. However, the Pro Filt’r Foundation sports a soft matte finish so it doesn’t suck the life out of my skin. Proper preparation is definitely key with this foundation! I moisturize with my ExfoliKate Glow Moisturizer and then prime with Too Faced Hangover Primer for an added layer of moisturizer. This combo works nicely to deliver the soft matte finish without looking dry or cakey.
Guys and gals with normal to oily skin will certainly get the best use out of the Pro Filt’r Foundation. I noticed the shine control and blurred pores instantly. My skin looks velvety smooth when I wear the Pro Filt’r Foundation. The formula seems to blur texture quite well. And also does a good job at controlling oil and shine.

Longevity & Overall Wear

The Pro Filt’r Foundation will certainly get you through a full day! The formula lasts around 10 hours on its own and goes for much longer when primed and set. My only gripe is that it starts to crease into my smile lines after a few hours. This isn’t a deal breaker for me though. All of my foundations crease into my smile lines. A good setting powder, like my trusty Black Opal, is all I need to get through the day.

Do I Need the Pro Filt’r Foundation?

Is it the perfect wonder foundation that makes you look 5 years younger? No. Fenty Beauty wasn’t necessarily revolutionary in the formula of the Pro Filt’r Foundation. It’s still quite a great formula. But the message behind the shade range speaks volumes. Which is what makes me love the Pro Filt’r Foundation even more! I think it’s well worth a try if you like a matte finish or struggle to find your shade. You can find the Pro Filt’r Foundation exclusively at Sephora for $34.
