Best of Beauty 2017: Foundation
Happy New Year! I know we’re already fresh into 2018. But I still wanted to share my favorite beauty products of 2017 with you! I can’t think of a better way to kiss 2017 goodbye. I’ve tried so many different new products. As well as rediscovered some old favorites. Unfortunately, last year left me super busy and sometimes underwhelmed to share everything I’ve tried. That’s all changing, though! Now, I’m feeling refreshed and ready to jump back into the good ol’ days of steady blogging! Let’s start with my favorite foundation, shall we?
Best Foundation of 2017
Rihanna came into the beauty game strong when she released Fenty Beauty! The Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Long Wear Foundation didn’t hit the scene until late 2017. But that didn’t stop this wonder-foundation from becoming the top foundation of the year. I was already impressed with Fenty Beauty’s Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Long Wear Foundation when I saw her extensive shade range.
It was like magic once I got my hands on the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Long Wear Foundation though!
This stuff is so bomb! The Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Long Wear Foundation has a lightweight creamy texture with medium to full coverage that’s easy to apply and blends into the skin seamlessly. The finish is truly soft matte so it does help to control oil and shine a bit while still looking like skin. This makes the Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Long Wear Foundation ideal for all skin types! You can find the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Long Wear Foundation at Sephora for $34.
The Too Faced Born This Way Foundation is holy grail status! I’ve been using this foundation for over 2 years now and it’s still one of my top picks. Born This Way is a creamy, lightly hydrating foundation with medium to full coverage and natural satin finish. I’m a huge fan of Born This Way because it literally offers undetectable coverage. You’ll walk around looking like you woke up like this a la Beyonce wearing this stuff!
I also love that Born This Way is formulated with skin quenching and plumping hyaluronic acid. It makes my skin look so smooth, plump and flawless! Not to mention, the formula is virtually weightless so it doesn’t even feel like you’re wearing anything. You have to try Born This Way! You can find it at your local Ulta or Sephora for $39.
Way too many people are sleeping on Clinique. There’s some real gems in their lineup! My favorite Clinique product is the Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer. A medium to full coverage foundation featuring a unique doe-foot wand applicator that makes application a breeze. You can apply this stuff all over! Even in the hard to reach places like under your eyes and around the corners of your nose.
The Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer is an oil-free formula with a natural matte finish so it’s ideal for oily skin peeps. However, I still love how this foundation looks on my dry skin! It never looks dry, cakey or patchy. Just smooth, even and polished! It’s hard to believe Clinique priced this beauty at just $28. Beyond Perfecting is hands down one of the most affordable high end foundations on the market!
Luxury has a name and it’s Dior. Everything about the Dior beauty line is just as luxury as the runway couture line. Including the foundations! The DiorSkin Nude Air Serum Foundation is another holy grail foundation in my arsenal. The formula is extremely lightweight with buildable medium coverage and a stunning natural satin finish.
The DiorSkin Nude Air Serum Foundation literally feels like silk on the skin! It has an incredibly lightweight, watery texture that melts into skin like butter for a seamless finish. It’s considerably more expensive than other foundations in my stash ($53). However, the DiorSkin Nude Air Serum Foundation makes my skin look flawless so it’s well worth the extra coin! You can find the DiorSkin Nude Air Serum Foundation at Sephora or your local Dior counter.
I’ve tried a handful of drugstore foundations but I always end up going back to Maybelline. The Fit Me line was the first foundation (and concealer) I ever fell in love with. And the formula still makes me a little weak in the knees sometimes! I love both versions of the Fit Me Foundation but the Matte + Poreless has been my go to this year.
The Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation was in heavy rotation all summer long as it’s quick and easy to apply. Plus, it has nice buildable coverage that layers well in case you need a little extra in some areas. I loved how the soft matte finish allowed me to skip the setting powder on my lazy days without compromising my slay. It also held up nicely through the humid summer without sliding right off. So the Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless will always have a spot in my stash!
My goal was to keep my picks to just 5 products per category. But I’m a hardcore makeup junkie and I’ve used way more than 5 good foundations this year. Like the new NYX Total Control Drop Foundation. There was no way I could rave about my top foundation picks and not mention this.
The NYX Total Control Drop Foundation is the most versatile foundation I’ve ever tried! It’s literally pure pigment in a bottle so you can wear it alone for maximum coverage. Or you can mix it with other stuff like moisturizer, primer or even illuminator. The choice is yours!
My favorite way to wear the NYX Total Control Drop Foundation is mixed into a moisturizer. That way I can control my level of coverage depending on my mood. And I can simply apply it with my fingers and go. The only reason the Total Control Drop Foundation didn’t make it into my top 5 is because it’s so hard to find. It appears it’s only available at Ulta and Target. Some locations offer testers but only for the lighter shades so you’re pretty much left to guessing if you’re a woman of color. I didn’t like that at all! I really hope NYX gets their act together to get the Total Control Drops into more hands because it’s truly revolutionary for a drugstore foundation!
Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer Powder in 24 Golden
Did I mention I really like Beyond Perfecting? The liquid foundation is a hit and so is the matching powder foundation! The powder version of Beyond Perfecting has just as much coverage as its liquid sister and performs just as well. I usually whip this baby out when I’m rocking my tinted foundation mix with NYX to lock everything in. Or I’ll wear it on top of my Dior DreamSkin Cushion for added coverage. I like wearing the Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer Powder on its own too. But I definitely prefer it as a setting powder. It perfects any foundation I toss at it!
